I recieved an email this morning stating that i had an unpaid item dispute opened.
It was for a Ford Mustang...!!!!!! Alarm bells already
Anyway the email looked totally genuine. I clicked on the link ( i know duhhh!)
But luckily my com blocked it.
I have reported it to ebay, but i just wanted to warn others in case it is doing the rounds. I have had many spoofs before but never one this way.
The name of the seller is 6728028
I have checked and there is a seller. (usa) but he/she doesnt use the account by the looks of it. I was going to email them, and thought better of it.
Just a reminder to everyone who gets any spoofs, Ebay ALWAYS send a message to your ebay message box aswell.0 -
Change your password too just to be safe after clicking on the link (even though it blocked it)

That ones been doing the rounds for ages, it is also mentioned in the sticky thread on this forum, so I'll move this across to that thread to remind people that it is still out there.

I'm absolutely fed up to the back teeth of the Spam I get claiming to be from Ebay or Paypal.
One of the things to take note of as a tip is when you sign up to Paypal and Ebay, and this can be done afterwards is create yourself an email address that is to be used only for the 2 services. Make sure that you use the email address for Ebay and Paypal only and you can be a little more confident (though still be careful) that you will get few Spam emails if any claiming to be from Ebay or Paypal.
Another tip is, if you do get mail you think is suspicious then check the links within the emails, if they don't start with https://www.ebay.co.uk or https://www.paypal.co.uk then you can be fairly sure that it isn't either of the 2 services that have sent the email. if this is the case then forward the email to spoof@ebay.co.uk for ebay or spoof@paypal.com for Paypal. You will then be sent a reply telling you whether either of the 2 services were the senders.0 -

I had a letter supposedly from ebay telling me my account had been used fraudently. The following email came:
madmike057 has informed us that they have not yet received your payment for the following item: sony laptop with external drives and xp pro installed (#270045560590)
I contacted ebay who were useless and just sent me pro-forma emails and as of now I have no ebay account since according to them it has been suspended. They said to activate the account I had to send them personal details such as DOB, proof of name etc. However, when i first opened the account i did not send these details so i have no idea what they intend to validate against. I dont think the emails i recieved were scams because they came after i had contacted ebay via their site.
My paypal account was also hacked into and an item appeared for £230 from the following:
hi i need your adresse like that i can send you the laptop ok. ghoujlami@hotmail.com
This was supposedly for a Dell Latitude which I had not bought - maybe the sender thought i was a total retard and would fall for such a scam. I think it is all related to ebay. Paypal was a bit more helpful than ebay and the money was refunded back.0 -
If you'd like to get the account back I suggest sending ebay whatever they ask for. The main thing is proving to them who you are. From what I've heard they do ask for an excessive amount of information, but they need to be really sure you're who you say you are.My TV is broken!

Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -

I understand this but they didnt ask for this info when i first opened the account. to be honest anyone can open an account on ebay and this is the problem - "they are closing the gate after the horse has bolted".0 -
Got a really convincing “phishing” thing yesterday – but its was really scary cos it was personally directed at me!
We are selling our sofa on ebay – and someone sent us a “question” via ebay messages about the item- they basically said “oh I saw an item like yours the other day for sale here it is on ebay
And they including a link supposedly to this listing
And it looks exactly the same as the ebay log on page e.g. where you enter your password and user id
But it was actually a cloned web page- used to “phish” for details
Luckily internet explorer and firefox recognised that and warned me not to enter anything and to leave the web page immediately.
So this person must have been just trawling through ebay – asking loads of sellers questions about their items and including this fake web site.
Anyway I reported them to ebay.
So basically –
Don’t ever click on any URLs people send you via ebay questions if you are selling something on there.
Make sure you have updated internet explorer and firefox to the latest versions as they can detect some “phishing” web pages (but only after they have been reported!!)0 -
Anything that Ebay send to you or someone sends through Ebay will appear in the My Messages folder anyway so i just delete all the emails and go to My Ebay and check. Never click on anything that is emailed to you just incase.0
