I've alway sfound it better to complain to the ISP that the sender is using, this is spam and if they are with a recognised ISP they will be in breach of their T and Cs.
I once had a seller stupid enough to send me the paypal spam letter (along with about 100 other people all with our email addresses clearly shown) using his work address ie john.smith@ welknownhighstreetretailer.com. I looked up the address of their customer services, found a direct email to someone important and complained...I got back an email stating that they took abuse of work PC use very seriously and my complaint would be investigated..so I hope I did some good.

Just read some of this thread and sent email to Paypal - yes it was fake.
Thought I'd change my passwords, successful through ebay but forgot password for paypal so clicked on 'forgot password' and they send you an email with a link which you have to click on - is this one ok?0 -
I've never had this one before, an obvious spoof of course (it didn't use my real name) but possibly will catch people out as it relies on people wanting to dispute the payment. All the headings looked legit and it even warned about spoof payments.

Hi all, can anyone help?
My girlfriend wanted to become verified with ebay/paypal they said they would send to payments to her account and she had to put them in online, so she did then it asked for her pin no and she put it in (schoolboy error i know) then she had an email off ebay saying that someone was trying to use her account details so she rang the bank and had her card cancelled, has this happend to anyone? and why would paypal ask for her pin?2010 Super League Grand Final Winners :beer:0 -
PayPal wouldn't. But the sequence of events seems pretty weird.
If it was a bank account your girlfriend was trying to link to PayPal so as to fund PayPal payments and/or add funds to the PayPal account, then yes, PayPal does send two payments as part of the process of setting up the Direct Debit facility. And what happens after that is that you log onto your PayPal account and enter in the two amounts that have been credited to the bank account.
Quite how that would end up in your girlfriend giving away her cash card PIN is baffling, because until now I've only heard of that happening when someone is naive enough to respond to an email which turns out to be a scam.
Yet your girlfriend doesn't seem to have been responding to anything, but to have logged on to a spoof PayPal site. How odd.

The targeting of legitimate bidders by scammers got so annoying that I decided to make my listings private when the monetary value of the item exceeded £100.
I had to think long and hard about it because the whole concept of 'privacy' runs counter to the transparency which (theoretically) helps to make eBay safe (allegedly).
I've never made my FB private, just those listings where, ironically, it seemed bidders were being identified as much for the auction record as for the benefit of scammers hunting down people with significant sums of money to spend.
As the downside to this is that prospective bidders might worry about participating in an auction without being able to see whether, for example, shill bidding is taking place, I always explain at the start of the listing why it's private.
Fortunately, I still have 100% FB after 100s of transactions, no neutrals, no withdrawn negs etc etc. Yet though I understand the reasoning for a private listing (well, my reasons, anyway) I do have to wonder at the number of listings I come across where an item's nature and / or intrinsic value just doesn't merit the seller's tactic in hiding bidder names: the alarm bells then ring out about shillers. . .0 -
My brother once got a email saying he had one a extendable rail, and he didn't even have a ebay account!!!. Why would anyone want a extendable curtain rail for anyway!!!~ lilmiss ~0
