If it is a genuine email from ebay, then it will be in "my messages" on your ebay account. These are a pain and I've got to the point of not bothering to forward them to ebay as it doesn't seem to stop them at all. I just bin all emails and then go onto my ebay account to check there.

You & me both. And a lot of other eBayers, I suspect, who no longer bother reporting phony emails to eBay or PayPal. Perhaps there'd be more enthusiasm if just one case of an eBay scammer tracked & arrested as on record. But I am beginning to wonder if the days of phishing etc are coming to an end as consumers wise up, it's almost as if the bandwagon has ground to a halt and the only ones now clambering aboard are the most stupid scammers on the planet.

well just looking through a hotmail account i dont use much and spotted an email from ebay, i have never used this email address for ebay before, i read it and thought what is it on about, saying i need to update my account details, then i saw the address that it came from and it was eBaY@co.uk.notify841382765.com

    the message was

    Dear eBay Customer!

During our regularly schedule account maintenance and verification we have detected a slight error in your billing information on file with eBay.
Your card will be used for identification only and will not be charged at any time. By having this type of identification from all users, eBay remains a safe place to buy and sell. Setting up a seller account necessitates valid credit or debit card and checking account information.
For automatic payments, your credit card will normally be charged 5 to 7 days after you receive your invoice. Enter and submit the required information. Your account may be suspended for non-payment, and you may be responsible for collection costs.
If your account information is not update, your ability to sell or bid on eBay will become restricted.

why would ebay even need my card details at all!

there was a link at the bottom of the message ...nRespondNow.gif
respond now! when i looked at where the link took me it came up with this http://signin.ebay.com.creditstatis.../ebay/login.htm

now that is not an ebay link!, but not sure what it is but the link dont work anyway

just thought i would share with you
Things that are free in life are great, well most of the time

Just got this email and I automatically new it was a spoof when it said dear member. I went through just to check and typed a random name and password then it asked me for my credit card details and my 4 digit pin. I sent them back an email telling them I know this is a spoof email and the email quality is so ad that I could do better than they could.

aav -- it's a waste of your time to even attempt to email a scammer or play around with the phoney links they provide. Responding only makes them aware that they've found a new target.

Don't worry it did not send. Get a email back saying message failed because of Invalid email address.

What is this? its getting worse by the day, nearly everyone I know gets a spoof mail, these people need to be stopped. Anyways, now that everyone knows it exists, everytime you get an email just dont log in through the link, even if it happens to be genuinly from eBay, just do it from your browser, SIMPLE!

I had a spoof email yesterday from service@usa-paypal.com, saying I made a payment, I knew it was a spoof email but clicked the link out of curiosity, Obviously I didn't try to log in, but is it harmful just to click the link? I read on here that you shouldn't even do that?

It wouldn't let me copy the email but I have forwarded ot to paypal.
