Brexit, The Economy and House Prices (Part 2)

Not for the first time you wilfully ignore the times in the past where the UK has sought to exert its "influence" only for it to be unceremoniously rebuffed by the real powerbrokers in the EU, namely the French and Germans. It's their party, they have a right to call the shots I suppose.
I'm looking forward to the UK being an influence for good, change and improvement outside of the EU economic straight jacket. We never really belonged and the British people reinforced that fact in the referendum last year.
Tromking, there are lots of examples where the UK has had it's way (i.e. rebate, opt outs), and other areas where the UK has been the heavy hitter (with support of typical allies such as Denmark, Czech Republic etc.) in setting direction in a way the French and Italians in particular wouldn't have preferred.
So the question that comes to my mind: is your idea of being rebuffed the fact that we didn't get our way in every single instance? Do you think the UK should never compromise in order to work well with others for greater objectives beyond single issues?
I'd be very keen to see some examples of what you're talking about, because many of us see that the UK has been a leader in Europe and has done very well on that political stage, contrary to your claim of the Germans and French calling the shots.0 -

I think that is the idea, wasn't there a whole variety of articles about bendy bananas?
I recall when I moved to the UK something about vacuum cleaner power.

A friend actually has this, and I was able to compare with a competing product from Rega.
Obviously, a highly machined tonearm is not remotely usable0 -

Brexit or not, no manufacturer is going to create a less efficient product just for the UK market when the much larger market next door won't let them in. Even where less efficient products are sold in the US or Asia, what manufacturer is going to ship them especially to the UK market, adapting their supply chain which currently serves the whole of Europe? Not gonna happen, we will continue to be "dictated to" about how our kettles can't be needlessly inefficient, and certain mail/telegraph readers will still get absurdly angry about product improvements. I found another silver lining of brexit, angry morons will still put themselves into an early grave!0 -
From the 'Independent', a total rag with a diet of misinformation, bias and incomplete reporting. I have much fun there with the most gullible readers one can find.

Well. Considering how worried the Express and its readers are about aliens I can now understand the hostility to borderless entry to the UK.
Will Brexit reduce the number of alien visitations to the Home Counties, Conrad?0 -

Don't worry, now that "EU’s secret trade plans to outplay Britain REVEALED…" it's all downhill.
And Barnier does not look impressed that the secret trade plan has been revealed, not at all!
Even Merkel looks rather upset
