This Remain voter leads the Manufacturing Technology Association.

Here you see he is confident going forwards, and I also heard him on LBC saying to his and most members surprise all sorts of Brexit related opportunities are slowly emerging.

“The UK has seen some major votes of confidence in terms of manufacturing investment post Brexit, with companies like Airbus, Boeing, Nissan, Toyota and McLaren making long term strategic investments in the country. The UK has a worldwide reputation for engineering excellence and this has not diminished since the vote last year.”

    Dan Hannan points out the obvious;

    SWITZERLAND

Switzerland exports five times as much per capita to the EU as Britain does, having agreed sensible customs facilitation procedures with its neighbours.
I’m not aware of any Swiss political party that wants to join the customs union, and thereby forfeit that country’s bilateral trade deals with Japan, China and the rest.

Most posters on this thread discussing Brexit who have suggested we are about to enter a "golden age" of increased exports manufactured in Britain either don't work in manufacturing, have nothing to do with any industry impacted by Brexit, are retired, or unemployed.

I do work in a Brexit impacted industry and I am sick of Jeremy Kyle watchers telling me how great Brexit is going to be, just before they slope off to an encrusted sofa covered in tubes of Pringles, or Brexit pensioners with a Daily Mail tucked under their arm who amble off to the golf club to fill the 12 hour void in their day while they wait for my taxes to land in their bank account for that month.

A statement without much substance. So a country like Switzerland basically joined at the hip to the EU with bilateral agreements and backed down from the FoM referendum is able to export 5 times as much per capita to the EU than Britain.

    So what is Britain's excuse?
    What does Switzerland exports?
    What does Britain exports?

What is the morale of this article?
(there is no negativity or positivity, I am just asking questions)

Your taxes to land in their bank account for that month? Excuse me, but most pensioners also pay tax (probably a fair amount of tax if they can afford to play golf), and have also paid it throughout their long working lives.

Note also that very many pensioners are not wealthy – even though they may have had long and productive working lives, during which they paid taxes and did not receive a fraction of the 'benefits' 'working' people receive today.

Lovely attitude you have towards people who are often horribly vulnerable – and are increasingly being used as scapegoats – in our selfish society. You are an absolute disgrace.

And I'm sick of the relentless negativity of Remainers who have no more idea of what the future holds than anyone else.

Your last paragraph is an utter disgrace which shames you.

Note also that neither I nor any people I know who voted for Brexit belong to either of the categories you've manufactured to attempt to support your reasoning (if you can call it that). I have never regretted my decision to vote the way I did – on the contrary, it has been reinforced by the stance of the unelected EU politburo, as well as by the propaganda of paid schills and others who hope to continue to personally benefit (via our taxes) from being part of the abomination that is the 'EU project'.

It'd be good to see some stats... This is from 2015 (a bit old) though:
"Pensioners pay 11% of total income tax revenues - and Londoners are the biggest contributors"
In 2014 the percentage of over 65 was 17.7% and under under 15 was 18.8%; so yes, a lot of workers are paying for others including pensioners.

The length of their working life is not longer than what we are expected to do. By the time someone now can retire (entitled to state pension) they will be looking at working 50+ years. This knowing that by the time they will reach state pension age there will be no much state pension and by then the health care system will be also privatised.

How much do we spend on welfare for retired people?
Welfare covers a number of benefits, and many people don’t realise that the largest amount is actually spent on pensions at £108 billion.

How much do we spend on care?
£29 billion is spent on personal social services....while £10 billion goes on elderly care payments

I don't know where you are, but around where I am the pensioners seems to have a good life. There is nothing wrong with that, they (the pensioners) live through a different time but don't make it sound as if it's all self funded.

I've been pondering the pessimism of ardent Remainers that endlessly imply we are a helpless little island, mere jellyfish on the tide of fate unable to shape our destiny, simply a scrounging dog that will take whatever scraps are thrown.

This mind-set starts out with the idea we are puny, incapable, helpless and hapless.

Such a shame these folk cannot get their heads around the huge contribution this nation has made to the world, how we shaped it, won freedoms from our own and foreign oppressors, shaped the world and nation we have today.

Unfolding before us is the next great opportunity to shape destiny, I cannot for the life of me understand this idea we will not ably carve our path as we've carved it many times before. We are the sum of ourselves, we are not destined merely to be handed an unfavourable reality.

What causes someone to see weakness and impotence, rather than confidence and opportunity?
