Im glad I aint the only one then!!
  • I also have the same kind of spreadsheet, how much all my purchases have cost me in total, how much each cake I have put together has cost me etc etc, how much I haven't sold any cakes for! Lol

Hi All, Can I ask how long it took people to get their first orders?

I have a few cakes sitting here with no one to buy them! And I am in the same position as others with the cost spreadsheet!!

    :A
My orders seem to be like buses, none for a while then a few at the same time.
For me, each time I sell a cake, a friend or relative see's them and I usually get another order from them, or told that they'd like one in a few months (once the baby is born).
Just make sure that wherever you go, or whoever you speak to, be brave and shove a leaflet (or 2) in their hand :D

Can anyone give me advice on making little gift cards to put on the cake.

I have bought some nice card and some lovely 3D stick on embellishments.

I will need to cut the card so do I stick to a rectangle and cut neatly with a Stanley Knife or be more adventurous ie. do an oval or heart?

I am no use with the PC so do I hand write the gift card or just stick to putting on the sticker, putting a ribbon through it and leave it to be written by the purchaser.

I have two cakes going out tomorrow so would like to do this tonight if possible.

I would be inclined to leave it blank for the people giving the gift to write their own message hun! I think with regards the shape whichever you think will be the neatest & easiest for you to do is probably the best option. Post some photos when you've done em!! ;) I'm currently doing some of my own so I'll show you mine if you show me mine!!! :p;):rotfl:

  • Made my first nappy cake for a family members Baby Shower in December and it was well received so that gave me the confidence to show photo's to a few other people which resulted in another order,
I have sold nine to date mainly two tiers and a toy on top.
So would you class that as a two or a three tier cake ?
I am thinking of doing some leaflets to pass around,
should I try and do a few different cakes for the leaflet or just one type
and is putting prices on the leaflet a good idea
sorry for all the questions, but woull appreciate any input

    Cheers

You are just way too organised Rusty!!!:rotfl:

:rotfl: I am not! ... I have been doing this for quite a long time in comparison to some on here, and you get the stage where you do things to make it easier for yourself ;)

Personally I would class that as a 2 tier cake ;) a three tier would be 3 physical tiers then a teddy or something on the top :)

I wouldn't put prices on my leaflet as you never know if you want to put up your prices or lower them ;)

    Hi Ladies
I just saw that you were talking about making gift cards and thought you might like to take a peek over at the card making thread. We are all very friendly and there are some real experts over there (not me I hasten to add!!). If you are stuck on making gift cards or wanting ideas just go on there and ask as I'm sure you will get lots of ideas.

Very pleased with myself I've made my first 3 tier cake minus a pink teddy. I'll try and post pics tomorrow. Looks ok, no where near as good as some of yours but an OK forst attempt. I really enjoyed making it. Just one more to do.
