Can anyone give me advice on making little gift cards to put on the cake.

I have bought some nice card and some lovely 3D stick on embellishments.

I will need to cut the card so do I stick to a rectangle and cut neatly with a Stanley Knife or be more adventurous ie. do an oval or heart?

I am no use with the PC so do I hand write the gift card or just stick to putting on the sticker, putting a ribbon through it and leave it to be written by the purchaser.

I have two cakes going out tomorrow so would like to do this tonight if possible.

POPKINS - this is the thread - it is fab. Mostly food items but occasionally a little gem will pop up. I once got 3 baby bjorn dolls puschairs from tesco, marked half price, charged full price DTD meant full refund and keep the pushchairs. I later sold them on ebay for £90 in total :j:j

Also had a printer which ended up being free and is now nicely hooked up to my laptop!!

lrlrip, I think leaving the card blank for the giver to write is a nice touch, They have gone to the trouble of buying a unique and personal gift so I think a hand written tag would finish it of beautifully. I hand write my ingredient cards too.

After visiting the worst craft fair in the world last week I have bitten the bullet and organised 2 of my own to be held in June.

This way I may make a little profit on the fair and I dont have to pay to have a stall!!!

I am in a positive frame of mind (even though I have never sold a nappy cake!) and determined to get this business up and running properly!

Any other ideas on what to do?

  • Hi All, Can I ask how long it took people to get their first orders?

I have a few cakes sitting here with no one to buy them! And I am in the same position as others with the cost spreadsheet!!

I sold my first cake within about 3 hours of making one  and have been selling them regular since :)

What do you mean with a cost spreadsheet? have you worked out your costs? have you worked out your prices?

I have a spreadsheet which tells me exactly how much every item I use costs and how much profit I make on a cake and how much I charge.
