Can i ask how would you feel if a lot of your ideas were being copied would you be happy about it or not. I feel the more stuff i show the more other people are doing it (no one off here) i feel like its starting to get me down ad i wish i had nver show some of it on the net but then saying that one of the fairs i do as now another girl who makes nappy cakes which i dont mind at all but each time she comes now her stuff is getting more and more like mine.

  • howdidthishappen, I know Candy does her ribbons the same way becs does, I have to admit I also gave it a try this way but I have only just changed my style of ribbon, I used to just use satin ribbon, now I use florist ribbon then a ribbon over the top like Shelley, I think to be perfectly honest we all make nappy cakes and all change and vary the designs ... If someone gave all of us identical kits and told us to make up a nappy cake using only what was in the kit you can guarentee they would all still be different :)
Howdidthishappen, Rusty, Yes, I have used this ribbon method for my 'cupcakes' (page 34, #670), as to be perfectly honest with you, I can't tie a bow neat enough. They always come out twisted. I secure the bow with a staple and then hide the staple with a foil confetti shape (the sort that they sprinkle on the tables at parties).
I bought the pack from tesco's (which also contains butterflies). For some reason, they consist of two stuck together with do actually come apart quite easily, so double the amount that you actually think you are getting.

Ooooppppss, sorry, got the wrong end of the stick there, thought you were asking for advice, ...... think I better slow down on the beechams !!!

    Hi Julie H,

I can understand you being ticked off at someone coppying you but it's a difficult one this!!

It's been discussed before on this thread but I'm afraid I don't think there is much you can do.

On one hand, there is only so many variations you can do with ribbons, blankets and so on , but like Rusty said, give 10 people the same materials and we would all come up with something different.

I think the only thing you can do is keep tight lipped about your "best" designs untill your fair and then she will always be playing catch - up!

Sorry I have not been much help but I understand how annoying it is.

  • Wow, haven't you all been busy!!! Some fantastic cakes on here. Well done ladies:T :T

Haven't been on here lately, as #1, my computer is being repaired (managed to pinch the OH's laptop), #2 trying to find a job where have they all gone? Should of stayed in Spain. No, not really, I am so glad to be back, apart from being freezing and full of cold!!!

Our friends had a little boy late last week and I so wanted to take my nappy cake into the hospital (a little advertising) and so haven't been able to due to this cold.

I don't know where you find all these lovely teddies, I keep going in my HB and B&M, and can't find any of them.

Keep up the good work ...

  • Julie H - I hope I haven't annoyed you. I think your new cup cakes look really sweet.

A Nappy Cake challenge would be fun and interesting . Maybe we should set one up! A set number of nappies, pair of socks, muslin, bib, length of ribbon, hat..... What do you all think?

It would be interesting to see what we all come up with.

Rusty - The blankets are even furrier on the inside and at £1.99 a bargain. I think they had Pink, a bit more lilacy pink, blue, white and beige. From a store called b&m

Thanks Moonpenny, I am thinking of heading up there today so will have a look. Hopefully I will see loads of pretty things as it is quite a big one :)

I'm having the advert every month now (it's my mother in laws mag) very sucessful in our area and i'll change it everymonth and hopefully get some good feed back. also i've plastered ads in shop windows and so far none of this has cost a penny. YAY!

PS! forgot to say watch out for reduced items in woolworths they are having HUGE probs app 400million in debt and my friend went in to get some baby bits and they were in process of reducing everything and then when she got to the till they offered her 20% extra off everything! so head to woolworths girlies they may have a bargin!!!

I can understand totally how frustrated you are. What is nice about this forum though is that we all make them yet nobody blatantly copies. Occasionally we may use the same toys but as for design each one is unique in its own way. I know nobody here would copy exactly but I suppose you can't stop those you view the forum, never post and then start selling duplicates. This has probably happened lots of time and we would never know!!!
I was receiving emails off a well known nappy cake website asking me not to use spotty ribbons and hello baby ribbon as she uses them. She also stated that my cakes were remarkably like hers!!! This upset me for weeks but on reflection I realised that she was trying to use scare tactics.
Needless to say it didn't work and for a start apart from nappies and blanket that was the only comparison. Just take solace in the fact that your baby gifts are fantastic :T :T :T

Moonpenny your 2 tier cakes are fantastic yet again!! They are so neat and classy:T :T I love those blankets really wish I had a B&M near me :(

    Thanks Bellag too xx

'm going to be very busy tonight preparing for tomorrow's first fayre. Unfortunately my Hubs thought he was being helpful and had now changed his shifts to 12 hour days instead of nights Thurs and Fri which had caused me a real headache and need to find a babysitter prompto. Men eh????
