If all I want to do is supplement my Sky+ box, which seems to be perpetually full, then all I need is the dvd recorder. what am I going to get extra from the HDD box??
HD recorders will (usually) allow you to edit recordings before transferring them to DVD.You can also make more than one back-up from the master recording on the HD, and at faster than 'real time'.0 -

We have been on the full Sky package for years, I didn't know you din not pay for sky +, do you just pay to get a boxl installed then?0 -
If you phone at the right time and make it look like you're leaving, they may install it for free too.We have been on the full Sky package for years, I didn't know you din not pay for sky +, do you just pay to get a boxl installed then?

Just a cautionary note re the brand Lite-on. On the plus side they have good customer service and a 2 year warranty on their products. On the negative side it is highly likely you will need it!
I have a hdd/dvd recorder that has been back for repair twice in its first year. It has many had many faults that rendered it nearly useless and was a false economy. Basically you wait in all day to get it picked up and then wait all day to get it returned so if time is money I couldn't recommend the brand. Google "lite on forums" to find many not so happy customers.
Also they no longer manufacture dvd recorders so it is any ones guess as to how long they will support the products. Suppose these are clearance lines.0 -

I bought a DVD recorder a couple of months ago and tried to record my daughters Disney videos but a message appeared on the screen telling me they were copy protected by something called Macrovision. I bought a copy decoder from e-bay which you plug between the scart sockets of the video and the DVD and it allows you to record protected videos. I was sceptical at first but the decoder worked a charm and cost about £15.0 -
Are sure about that?I thought that was pretty much the only thing Liteon manufactured...I've got a liteon DVD/HD recorder that stopped recording DVDs after 18 months of use - turned out to be dust on the lens(easily rectified with a screwdriver, lighter fluid and cotton budThey no longer manufacture dvd recorders so it is any ones guess as to how long they will support the products. There is a min £3.99 delivery on this but you can get 3% Quidco to nearly make up for it.0

My Liteon LVW-5026 (Same as the 5045 but with a smaller hard disk) has just started to conk out 10 days out of its two year warranty:mad:
It takes many goes before it will read a DVD. Once it does, it is OK. Having Googled this fault, it appears the DVD drive is about to fail and it seems quite common. Will be trying their customer services later on to see if it can be fixed and how much:-(Do Money Saving sites make you buy more bargains - and spend more money?0 -
Could be wrong about Liteon stopping manufacturing. Mainly though I believe they make computer products (drives and the like)
Seems that the dvd drives put in recorders are poor as I am about to have my second replacement and many others have the same problem.
I've had 2 Liteon dvd recorders. The first one went back for a refund within a week. Years later I saw a good review and bought a HDD/DVD model which was an impressive machine until things started going wrong. Reliability is a big issue so obviously I won't make the same mistake a third time!0
