MicroDirect has some VERY good prices on Lite-On hard disk and DVD recorders.
Lite-On get slightly iffy reviews, but at just £88 for a 160gig HDD recorder and DVD recorder in one, they've got to be worth a go. The same models are on sale elsewhere for £220-plus.
Try a DVD recorder for £43

And combined HDD and DVD for £88

I've owned one of the £88(Paid £270 for mine) Lite-on LVW-5045 DVD 160gb Hard drive Recorders for about 3 years only problem I have with it is some discs are not compatable. I stick with ritek g05 DVD-R'S and tevion (Aldi 5 PACK DVD+RW'S).Great machine and at this price a bargain.0

Is it possible to copy from a VHS tape to a DVD using one of these ?0 -
If a film, it might have copy protection on it, the dreaded Macrovision, and the dvd may refuse permission. You can copy direct from your own tape recordings via scart or av/svhs leads, however the time available on a single layer dvd is limited to just over 60 mins in real time. I believe these have extended play, but if you want to play the recorded dvd on other players then 2hrs seems to be the limit.

It is worth noting that this does not have a digital tuner so it will have limited use in 1 to 5 years time (depending on where you live).0

not really true....you can hook it up via scart to a freeview box to record and it will work fineKing_Of_Fools wrote: »It is worth noting that this does not have a digital tuner so it will have limited use in 1 to 5 years time (depending on where you live).0 -
spltrade on ebay were selling a 250GB HDD with built in freeview for 89.99 - looked really good. No listings for it at the moment but they have similar bargains..
I currently have the 160gb HUMAX one. Bought it last year brand new at £200. OUCH! but really really excellent bit of kit.0 -

The hdd one has an internal pc hard drive as well as a dvd recorder.
It means the progs can be recorded onto the internal hard drive, as well as onto the dvd, and usually can be swapped between the two. I dont think you will need that, from what you have said.ac's lovechild0 -
Yes you can do that but it still limits its functionality as you would not be able to use any timed recording on different channels unless your Freeview box can also switch channels.stephen25uk wrote: »not really true....you can hook it up via scart to a freeview box to record and it will work fine
I just wanted people to be aware of what they were buying as a lot of people think that HDD or DVD recorders are "Digital". (I know technically they are digital as they record programs in a digital format on the DVD or HDD but they are not "Digital" in the sense that they can pick up Freeview broadcasts). It can all be a bit too confusing to non technical people!0
