Using up old soap

I think I read it somewhere on this site - press bits of soap into an empty metal tealight holder.
This would give you a 'mini' bar!0 -
when I was little I remember my mum having a proper gadget for this. You had to put all the soap bits in it, when it was full you turned this handle thing and it mushed and squashed it into a new bar.
We often had multi coloured soap in our house! lol:)Do more of what makes you happy:)0 -
I sometimes put a few soap slithers into a flannel 'pocket'. Then, once dampened, the flannel becomes soapy and ...voila..instant suds!0

I just let them get hard then grate them and use in washing machine for towels. Has to be 40C or above to dissolve it. I have a rotary grater, thinks its a moulinex, inherited from a relative which works well. Also put them into an old pop sock and tie it to the outside tap for washing grubby hands.Would hate to throw those little bits away.0

A brand new tablet of soap is one of the great pleasures of life for me. DH used to stick the last of the old onto the new, even though I asked him not to.
In the end I started to get a new bar out and leave him to use the 'stuck on' bar. He soon stopped.
I think the idea of putting it into a flannel pocket is a brill one. My answer is to throw the last of the old bar into the lav. In a lifetime of chucking the leavings of the old bar into the lav I bet I only throw away five quid!0 -
I just stick the old bit on the new bit. If you use the same brand of soap as I do, you don't notice it.
Don't make the mistake I did of collecting up old bits and then microwaving them in the hope of melting them into a new bar! The smell of burning soap must be one of the worst in the world...'Never keep up with Joneses. Drag them down to your level. It's cheaper.' Quentin Crisp0 -

Oh lol I remember that when I was young. A catalogue used to come through the door, betterware or something. One time I remember looking through the pages and seeing the most gross bar of multicoloured soap I had ever seen - then my mums order came and she had ordered one!!!
We never had enough pieces to make a bar though and I think she chucked it away in the end :rolleyes:0 -
Rotating soap around the house! I'd forgotten all about that..my mum used to do it!
Odds and ends of soap can be softened in the microwave (In a lidded takeaway container, keep an eye on it!)) and pressed into a ball of soap for the kitchen. I can't be bothered , but it does work!0 -
