What small DFW things will you do this week? w/c 22/05

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important :money::money:

  • Morning :) whoop it's a good day weather wise and I have the day off of work and childcare :j I've been tidying & clearing up already. Just need to polish & vacuum and the house'll be looking spic and span :D Load of washing in machine and will hang out when it's done.

I've called my neighbour and begged him to give me the piping he's promised and he's said he'll bring it over at lunch time. I'm going to make 2 arch towers to grow my squashes :money: just need to pick up some pvc fencing material

I have my car full of metal I am taking to the scrap yard on my way back from having coffee with my friend. I was hoping I could do it before but it doesn't open until 10.30

    Other things to do:

    * call child maintenance people
    * chop and freeze ginger
    * make 2 cakes - vegan and non vegan
    * think of what we need for weekend camping & make a list
    * make another batch of hummus. I processed the last one too much and it's too runny so now need to make another less processed and add it to it & freeze 1/2
    * sow some seeds, pot on some plants, feed plants and get down the lottie for a couple of hours
    * do some voluntary work

Ok better get on if I want to get these things done! Happy Monday y'all

Dawn it was at a Pontins so not you're usual camp in a muddy field festival :rotfl:

Thanks Ziggy for kicking us off on this lovely sunny Monday :T

Oh I love it when the sun shines, it makes me feel so much better :)

I'm WFH all this week so today's plans look like this:

    - Check banking - done...looking rather dry until pay day on Friday
    - Wrap up 4 parcels ready to post from items sold on eBay, post in a bit - done
    - Get in a home workout during lunchtime
    - Get onto Swags and FPL
    - Get some bed sheets into the wash and hang outside to dry
    - Freeze some bits left over from dinner
    - Go for a 3 mile walk tonight with DH before dinner
    - Fathers Day and DH's birthday coming up in June so need to look around for presents online which hopefully are already discounted

Have a fab Monday everyone

We are going to the big shopping centre and will try not to buy too many non-essentials.

Managed a relatively frugal day yesterday:

    * Took bus to pool one-way.
    * Swam at the mid-cost pool instead of the expensive one.
    * Took a snack to eat after swimming.
    * Walked 9km home.
    * Walked past Sainsbury's without buying anything, though did have an ice-cream at the 6km mark.
    * Made toad-in-the-hole for dinner instead of getting a (much wanted) takeaway.

    Morning Monday Savers,
Wide awake from 5.10 a.m....again. One thing this Fitbit is proving (as if I needed the proof) is how little sleep I get. Still, 5.10 is an improvement on the old days when I was working, as I always woke at 3.15 then! Anyway, I need a good week.....1) because lots of stuff needs doing & 2) because life is stressful at the moment & it helps me to stay in on top of those things over which I do have control.
*Cheap load of overnight laundry. Pegged out in sunshine. Done.
*Washer re-loaded for more of the same tonight. Done.
*Changed cartridge in filter jug......we do buy some sparkling water, but it definitely goes further if we also use our jug regularly. Own-brand cartridges, of course! Done
*Remembered to get everything out of freezer - everything I need for tonight's meal plus something for mr f's packed lunch tomorrow. Done.
*Checked online banking & texted mr f to advise that our current account is now officially out of bounds until pay-day later this week. Done.
*Paid last grocery shop money across to CC (only used to accrue vouchers). Done.
*Claimed another £10 voucher from Ipsos surveys. Done
*Did a few surveys, but they are not the best use of my time today. Done.
*Free fitness with a brisk trot down to the post box first thing. Done.
*Phoned mr f about a well-dodgy email received today purporting to be from Virgin Media & wanting my personal details. He confirmed what I already knew.....that he has always dealt with VM & they have never had my email address (it was an old one) or even know of my existence. I guess sufficient people fall for this stuff to make scammers feel it's worth it. Done.
STILL TO DO (after a cup of coffee):
*Put up hanging baskets - zero spend as have used overwintered geraniums & stuff I grew from free seed.
*Continue planting out bedding plants (ditto zero spend/free seed)
*Clear bed outside greenhouse ready for my outdoor tomatoes.
    *Water veggies.
*Pull radishes & cut mustard & cress to go in tonight's salad.
*Tidy courtyard, wash out birdbath (mr f thinks we need another one, but it will be fine with a good wash) & re-fill peanut feeder (no spend as found some in cupboard).
*Remove another huge load of duckweed from pond........needs doing as it's gone crazy, but at least it'll put lots of nutrients into our garden compost.
*Any other of a whole heap of random veggie garden jobs, all of which will help us maximise our home-grown food supplies.
*Bring small dehumidifyer downstairs to deal with odd damp patches in washing machine cupboard. Could be a leak from back of ancient WM or could be water ingress from problematic wall. Aim to dry out the current patches, then monitor....i.e does it return after heavy rain? Boring but neccessary, as we have been noticing a sort of frowsty smell all week & I'm sure it's from this. Boo to frowsty smells!
*Update blog. Doing this regularly this week will help keep me motivated.
OK, kettle on, must crack on.
Ziggy - I'm with you on the stress front.....what a year this is turning out to be. Frankly, I'm surprised I'm not sitting in the shed with a box on my head, a crate of gin & wheelbarrow full of cake! (Box would of course have hole carefully cut in it to allow gin & cake through........
    Love to all,

    Good afternoon all,

Just back from my daughters wedding which was wonderful. She takes after her mum. She did all the flowers and favours. A friend made all the little flower vases. Brought her own cake and cheese etc. The venue was set in the beautiful Lancashire countryside, overlooking the river and the sun shone for us. It was wonderful. So many beautiful memories. I will never forget it :)

Anyway back to reality. We did spend a bit on drinks, my DH is overly generous when it comes to buying a round, but then I guess your daughter only gets married once.
    Todays jobs
-wash DH white shirt and try and get the raspberry coulis stains out:eek:
-cut the grass, we meant to do it on Saturday but it decided to pour
-we need to nip to the auctions for viewing
-call and see MIL as we haven't seen her over the weekend with being away
    -Checked bank all OK
-I need to set up the new Standing orders for the DMP directly from our account but that will be a tomorrow job as I'm feeling too tired today
-Tea will be leftovers including the huge chunk of cheese we brought home from the wedding;)
Have a good Monday all x

Can I be in the shed eating cake and drinking gin as well? It would definitely make me feel better.
    Good news and bad news.
I have a rash on my arm on top of my general run down health which is stressing me out a bit. It's not getting bigger but isn't getting smaller either. Looks like sunburn or an allergy but came on really suddenly last night and has stayed - through the shower. I'm also still physically and mentally exhausted.
But - only 4 more get ups until half term.
And my books are marked up to date.
Hoping for a nsd but not looking too likely to be honest. It's ds swimming night and he normally talks me into getting him a KFC on the way home.
Going to ask dd to hoover and feed the cats.
