Thanks everyone! I'm going to feel bad when it's nowhere near that amount in August though :o

Louby, I'm away the last 2 weeks of the school holidays. The children are also having a week away in Wales with grandparents and we do intend going and spending a long weekend with them so sort of 3 weeks.

I am absolutely loving prolific I have got just under £20 this week. im going to let it build up and then pay out towards the end of August and just pay it off the debt. I don't want to spend what I wasn't expecting anyway.

In worse news I've had a letter from my gas and elec company asking me to increase my direct debit from £72 a month to £168
I've looked on and we are £180 in debt which by this point in the year we shouldn't be. I have been really chuffed that with the extension our bills didn't go up but maybe that was a bit premature. We brought all AAA rated appliances and there is so much insulation it never gets cold. We never have baths (because the old bathroom is the only bath and it leaks) but we all have daily showers. I don't really know where we can cut back. I'm going to try and do some top-up payments, when I can, and try and keep the direct debit as it is because, in all honesty, I can't juggle the budget to make up that shortfall, it would have to come out of one of the pots for big one off events which I don't think are really enough as it is.

I'm off the do some washing and ironing and to tackle my DD's bedroom which is a disaster area - wish me luck!

Well, not a great day in Emmie Land, I went to what I thought was a routine optician appointment today for a check up for my contact lenses. Unfortunately, I have been having problems and today what should have been a ten minute appointment was nearly and hour and the upshot is that I can no longer wear contact lenses :(

My prescription is very strong and I don't have any glasses that are the right prescription so I have had to have a trip to Specsavers and get a pair of glasses and a pair of sunglasses which were £125. I've also got to get a pair of prescription goggles and some special heated pads to treat my eyes, which are essentially filled with pus (nice) so I am going to have to spend even more.

I knew something would come up this month, but that is life. I've managed to use my personal spends money. It does mean I have very little left for the month but we will have to manage and I'll have to make sure I get cracking on prolific over the next week to make sure I have enough to get to the end of the month.

I also will be £20 a month better off as I spend £10 on contacts and £10 on solutions. I need to phone Tesco tomorrow as I should get a refund of around £40 because I have been paying monthly and now can't have the contact lenses.

Otherwise, today I have spent £5 on a bottle of wine that I took to a family party. It as lovely to see all my lovely family and made me feel a bit better.

Just of to have a good tidy up before its back to the grind stone tomorrow.

So sorry to hear about your eyes. I need to see an optician and I need new sunglasses and glasses, did your sunglasses also have your prescription in them? That seems really good for 2 paid £125!

Oh Emmie so sorry to read about your eye appointment yesterday, sounds horrible. Isn't it always the case that something pops up just when you feel like you're getting somewhere. Anyway at least you're not getting into further debt xx

Aww Emmie I hope your eyes aren't too sore. Sounds like you could have done with that bottle of wine yourself. Theres always something. You should be no worse off money wise with your glasses, its just a big outlay at once rather than monthly so that's one silver lining I suppose.

Thanks HI - you are always upbeat xx

Louby - I would definitely recommend specsavers, they were fab, the sunglasses are prescription as well and they are the first pair I've ever seen that really look like fashion sunglasses. I have a thick lense because my prescription is so strong and they didn't try and sell me the ultra thin lenses for more money, in fact they said not to waste my money. I am swapping over to them as soon as I've had my check up at tesco and got all my money refunded.

M2G - you are right, at least the debt isnt going up anymore despite everything that life is throwing my way. I was more gutted about my poorly eyes to be honest though but all my lovely family have reassured me that I don't look like postman pat with glasses on so I've made my peace.

Quintwins - that has been the silver lining that once I have my refund back It will only take me about 4 months before I am saving money. I also definitely needed that wine but made do with one glass of Prosecco.

Today has been better as it was a NSD. I was absolutely snowed under at work so I didn't have a chance to check prolific but hopefully will have a chance at some point tomorrow.

The children have had piano lessons and as he does every week, he has asked me if I have had chance to buy a piano (at the moment they are learning on a pretty basic keyboard that isn't full size and doesn't have pedals) today I just told him I couldn't afford and we would have to wait a while until we could get one, it's amazing how a bit of honesty stops people.

Another late night even though I promised myself I'd be in bed at 10, maybe tomorrow :o
