  • I feel your pain on the school uniforms/shoe buying! You have reminded me to add it to my list for the week <sob> but no chance we can afford it before DH gets paid.

Months where the budgets just barely balance are depressing, but I have found it makes the next month seem terribly straightforward. Silver linings

HI hope you mange a rest, with the little ones off school I expect that will be hard.

CMD - that is such a long holiday wow, my daughter is off from Wednesday until 5th September and I'm wondering how I'm going to afford to keep them occupied, so 2 months must be crippling.

TOPM - I am going to do your trick and do weekly budgeting next month as it will hopefully keep me on track.

I have just nipped home to make sure DS is ok, I had given him a list of jobs to do, including playing outside, practicing piano as well as emptying and filing the dishwasher,
Bless him he's done it all. I am going to put some washing away and get back to work.

Ooffftt to the kids in adult shoe sizes Emmie ... Im only a size 5 foot so can get away with the junior sizes! I reckon DD1 will have bigger feet than me though, she's already a 4 and not even 11 yet . So glad you managed to agree on some more reasonable trainers.

I can't believe your DD is at school all week, that is very late. Did she have 2 weeks at Spring Bank?

Im glad DS got all his jobs done :D xx

My DD is 10 and size 6 it's crazy! She isn't in school all week she finishes Wednesday, she only had a week in may I don't know why they are finishing late, never mind.

Had a lovely evening tonight, went kite flying, it wasn't really windy enough but my step mum brought it for us about a month ago and we've tried 4 times to get it off the ground and today was the day, if only for 20 seconds at a time haha, we spent more time untangling it than flying it :rotfl:

When we got back I made a lemon drizzle cake with DD and in the rush to grab a slice I dropped the whole cake, luckily only onto the worktop, but now have a very crumbling mess, really I think I am mr beans lovechild sometimes.

Well it is finally time for the July update. Drum Roll Please …
    Car loan £14,581
    Credit card 1 £4325
    Crdeit card 2 £2400
    Credit Card 3 £0
    Kitchen loan £875

    Total £22,182

Debt reduced by £942 this month

    £2177 in total repaid that’s 9% yay!

I knew it wouldn’t be as good as last month’s totals but I am still chuffed it is going in the right direction. I feel like I am in no rush because it’s kind of sustainable at the moment, we are still managing to have fun and go out with friends etc but we are hopefully making permanent changes to our spending habits. Last time I was debt busting I threw everything at it and did loads of overtime however when we had paid of the debt we went crazy with spending. I’m hoping that this time we won’t feel too deprived so we will hopefully start saving when we have repaid everything.

I know that this month is going to be really hard I have got car insurance, annual professional fees, school uniforms and holidays to contend with but in preparation for being skint I have signed up to prolific and in two days have so far earned £6.30, I think that if I can make £20 a week that is not to be sniffed at and could make me a little extra spending money which means more can be thrown at the debt. I also really need to get selling things, I’m embarrassed I still haven’t got round to this.

The shopping budget is going to be split into weekly amounts this month to keep us on the straight and narrow and to be honest we are going to be away for over 2 weeks of August so I am hoping that we have some of the shopping budget left over to help pay for holiday spending money.

I have worked out that I have £270 to last me the month left over from all budgeted items. I do want to have my eyelashes and waxing done which will take up £50 of this but should leave me £70 a week for the weeks I aren’t on holiday. I really feel I can spend much less than this but we will see. I may get caught speeding again or break something which seems to be my current modus operandi so I am not counting my chickens just yet.

Well done. That's a phenomenal amount to pay off and especially if it is sustainable. You should be very proud!

Yes, I only recently did though, I had underpaid tax somehow and my tax code was shocking so I phoned up and got lots of things added on and back dated to clear what I owed. Good thought though.

  • Brilliant news on how much you're managing to repay each month! I am very in awe (and envious!). I hope you find the weekly shopping pots as much use as we have.
