Lets say you limit yourself to what you can touch in your local Currys/JL.
I live near a large Currys and it stocks maybe 50-60 free standing cookers, of which 15-20 are Ranges, and they are for various sizes so maybe 10 are 100cm wide.
Rangemaster ALONE has 61 colour and style combinations in 100cm wide ranges.0 -
I have been looking online for a new fridge freezer and am surprised with the short warranty period on many of the appliances. I was prepared to buy an extended warranty to have peace of mind for the first five years. but many of the retailers sell the warranty by monthly payments instead of a one off payment. Luckily, John Lewis still sell a top up to a full five years for £60 for a £450 appliance I'm considering. They are my retailer of choice, assuming they have the model I want.
How much does the pay monthly cover option cost and do you have to pay it for the whole period. On Currys website it appears to be £3.49 per month but do you have to pay it for the whole five years, assuming you want cover for five years. Or if the product you're buying has a 2 year warranty, do you only pay Curry's for an additional three years. Can anybody explain.0 -

It seems you can pay for 3 or 5 years cover up front or monthly for as long as you like.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0 -
Others have mentioned Euronics. My friendly local retailer is my first point of call for white goods. They have helpful staff, their prices are actually quite reasonable compared with the big stores, and they do free delivery.
And I'm helping a local business.
If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
I've just moved and we used ao.com. I did look at other places and in store beforehand. Great service from ao.com. Friendly staff and loads of available slots for delivery some free some expensive if you need quickly.0

I used john lewis for white goods for decades until they refused to price match. The last items I bought were AO.com and I couldn't fault them.
I used to buy more expensive because they would last longer but sadly that doesn't appear to be the case anymore. The seals have split on my miele fridge/freezer and its £760 for new ones (that is not a typo)0 -
Another vote here for AO - have bought a couple of things from them, and been very impressed with the service, especially the delivery which has been brilliant.
I have received a call from them after delivery (often within hours of the delivery!) to try to sell an extended warranty, but to be fair there has never been any hard sell and once I have told them I'm not interested they have politely ended the call.
Worth noting that I've not had an issue with the items bought from AO, so I can't comment on their after sales support.
Also used AO to buy an fridge freezer for my ederly mum who was blown away by how good the delivery was - the delivery men went above and beyond what was expected/paid for - including moving the old unit out to her garage for her, and talking her through how to operate the new appliance.0 -
Oh for the good old days of going to the local gas or electric board shop to see what was available or Powerhouse, Comet etc.
How can you choose an appliance online ? We hunted high and low for a cooker last year as JL had hardly any in store but we could look at pictures! Currys had loads of electric and few gas and we wanted an upright gas slot in type. Ended up at a local place with one outlet after a recommendation and found what we wanted but did not see similar anywhere else. Sorry but this is the old fashioned way of buying big items for us and I need to open those doors and look at that flimsy grill pan!0 -
