Just looked at mine and I got £2.98 net more in August.

It's probably because there are 31 days in August and only 30 in September. If you divide the amount you got in August by 31 and then multiply by 30 it results in approximately the amount of interest you got today for September.

It's gone again here, for me, and has been flakey all day.

Yes, interest is calculated on daily balance.

However, the site has just gone down again for "essential maintenance".

I had just tried withdrawing all my balance (including interest credited today) in a Direct Saver. It would not let me, saying that would take the balance below the minimum for the account. So it won't let me close the account. When I tried to reduce the amount to leave £1 in, I lost access to my account.

(I'm not taking it personally - I don't have that much money in - but how many others are trying to do the same thing with a Direct Saver which doesn't pay any interest on the balance in the account when any withdrawal is made in a month?)

...errr, me, for one, though I don't suppose the day will add up to that much interest. It's annoying, mind!

Just got online to my account and apparently set up the withdrawal of all my savings except for £1. I'll be logging back on Tuesday morning to be sure - and get my £1 back as soon as I can.

Site VERY slow again today - a real pain. I have banked with A & L for a number of years and never had this bother before.
  • And I thought it was just me! I was trying to get into A&L, and while waiting just popped on here.

Never had a problem before, ho hum, Icesave can have my untold millions instead ;)

Perhaps there's a high volume of people trying to close their Directsaver accounts and moving their money to higher interest savings accounts or fixed rate deals? I believe 1st October is the first time in several months where the start of the month starts on the beginning of the weekday so there's minimum loss of interest during the transfer period.
  • I'm having no luck either. The reason I'm trying to log on is to withdraw the interest on my saving account which is paid every year on 1st october. Maybe there are lots of others trying to do the same today........

...... or maybe it's A & L trying to make their on-line service as bad as their phone service.
