Anyone tried Starling Bank?

  • Just be aware that you can only make cash deposits at NatWest, not at RBS branches also despite both banks belonging to the same group. I got this confirmed by their support team as there are no Natwest branches where I live (Inverness), yet plenty of RBS branches. Just something to bear in mind if you live outside the major cities in Scotland...

Yes, I made a cash deposit at a NatWest branch, ask in the chat for the account details to use.

Thanks, it was just curiosity at present, but good to know it's possible without a complicated process.

Android app in a Nexus 5X.
I got my code and applied. I got to a screen with a message about "checking my details" that looked like "we are checking your details right now, wait a few second" but at the same time mentioned that *if* the computer had problems a person would look into it and the thing would be done by the next working day (in a badly worded sentence).
    - The first thing you think is that the thing has got into an infinite loop and you are going to need to reinstall the app. Why have me a week with a message saying what will happen if a manual check is required instead of telling me that indeed it was required? Why it took one week to approve if they are sending codes at a rate they supposedly can manage?
    - It actually took one week for my details to be verified. And after that week what happened is that I received a SMS asking me to contact them. In the web chat they asked me to confirm basic information like my email and the application was approved. I'm still wondering what was the point of that conversation.

By this time the app update that fixes the camera focus when making a photo of your ID had already been released. But when I received my card and wanted to activate it I had to enter the details manually because the autofocus didn't work.

So, way worse than Monzo. It's just a beta product, not ready. Meaning... a way better experience than with any "normal" bank I have ever used (and I have used most of them).

I received a code straight away, my son sent them a tweet as he has an account with them. They responded to his tweet straight away with a code for me to use. Within 5 minutes my account was opened and i had been offered an overdraft. The app stated my card would be dispatched on Friday, it was and i received it yesterday. Activated immediately using the camera on my phone, fantastic as far as i'm concerned ! Quick, easy and professional. It's not my main account, i'll use it for withdrawing cash on holiday.

I have been using Starling as my main account now for around a month. Its been great and the app has improved further showing your spending trends. No regrets so far
  • I'm finding the app very buggy at the moment and have gone back to using Revolut until they sort them out.

What problems have you had? I've been using both the Android and iOS versions for almost a month now without a single issue.

I can't get it to work at all on a Huawei P8 - keeps coming up with "Server gave a 403".

On a Sony Xperia, it keeps saying "No internet connection" when there is although it does then go on to work.

Weird, I'm running the app on a Galaxy S7 and iPhone 6s Plus, not a single issue with either.

Can anyone confirm which of the CRA's Starling are using for the current account?

I've now seen all of my credit reports since I applied for a Starling Bank account.

Starling Bank only checked Call Credit. They performed a full credit check. They also report to Call Credit, but don't appear no my Experian or Equifax reports.
