Vauxhall "Service soon" yellow warning light with spanner

I suspect OP will be only too happy for this to become a catastrophic issue so they can return the car, since that's what they've been angling for since they bought it - being a diesel and all, and with all those stories in the news...0

Please don't dismiss this as 'a silly little light'.
Opal/Vauxhall put it there for a purpose.
It may be something trivial - like a reset after servicing or .....
...... it may be something indicative of an impending potential major disaster that could cost a packet if ignored.
Thanks.
Oil was showing as 40%, and they reset it. Also no codes were showing when they used there reader.
So, it looks like it was just a simple reset someone hadn't done after the service, touch wood.
They said *IF* it showed again, bring it back and they will use a Vauxhall code reader - which worried me
Thanks for all the helpful replies, much appreciated.0 -
Awww great, just 12 days after they reset the light, it came on again today while driving home
Oil shows 95% when pressing menu and it still says "1 Unit Set".
What is happening?
Anyone......0 -

Take it back to the garage and get them to check it out0 -
But I just did, 12 days ago.
This will be the second time since April if I take it back to them again.
Something's up with this car, I get a bad feeling about it.
We visited them twice and looked at 3 cars, all of which were too small. On the first occasion they showed us this Meriva which we instantly dismissed as it was too much money and looked far too big, the second time they did the same, and this time we took it as we needed a car ASAP and nothing was big enough for our growing family.
Bet they were glad to have got rid of this diesel.
It also leaks when I fill it up with screenwash (heard sound of liquid pouring under car) and it was literally running like a tap (no, I didn't overfill it), and it also gets through diesel like a mouse on a cheese board.... never had to fill a car up so many times at the pump before, but the latter is my fault as it's a 1.6 litre automatic!0 -
It's definitely the ecu logging a fault code.
why not buy a generic fault code reader off eBay for a tenner and keep that on hand and scan the codes your self? At least that gives an idea of what's wrong and people can then help you further.0 -
The description of "service vehicle soon" which Vauxhall give is misleading. In reality the light means that the vehicle's ECU has detected a fault but it's not one which affects the emissions. An emissions related fault would bring on the engine management light.
It needs to be connected to a decent scanner which will read the fault. You can try a cheap Ebay job but it's unlikely to be up to the task. Without it being properly code read you are working in the dark.0 -
As mentioned before that make and year of the car has a faulty ECU , I know this for a fact from my monster-in-laws car, same make and model and after lots of tooing and frowing this indeed was the problem and ended up being more than the cars worth to repair so has now been sat on her drive for over a year. Google the make and ecu fault and you will see its common sorry.0
