Live and learn I guess 8 years of driving and this is my first accident,I really don't want to drive anymore Probably wont for a while.0

Well, if they aren't there for that reason, they why do councils waste paint painting yellow boxes?
You have totally misunderstood my post.
The rules for yellow boxes say that you do not enter unless your exit is clear. Also that you may enter if you are turning right and the exit is clear, when you are only prevented to exit by oncoming traffic.
Your post seemed to be suggesting that people stop at a yellow box junction in order to let people enter from the left, for no other reason that to let them enter.
I would be driving straight on over and out of the yellow box.
No way would I be stopping to let anyone out - UNLESS - my exit from the box was not clear.
Of course there was no yellow box in the OP's example, but if there had been someone stopping rather than passing over the box would simply have encouraged the OP to enter into a street with moving traffic.
A yellow box would not have prevented the OP's accident.0 -

No, I was not suggesting that. The OP didn't specify, but I assume that the person stopped for him because the traffic in front of him was stationary. Most people would not stop to let someone out of a side road for any other reason.
No, a yellow box would not have prevented the accident, which suggests that yellow boxes should not be put in such areas. But as they are (a new one was painted by me recently), it suggests the the OP was not in the wrong in doing what he did.0 -

His side or had he crossed the lines to the other the other side to overtake the stationery car?
If he was on the wrong side of the road at point of impact you might be able to argue 50/50. If he was on his side of the road I don't think you have a case.
Quoted in case OP missed it.0 -

the traffic had stopped as there was heavy rush hour traffic and the car that hit me left the junction clear for me to go0 -
But if there was a yellow box and the OP made his way in to the box and then carried on going because there was a gap in the traffic from his left then the other driver could still have hit him if he had overtaken the car which had stopped just before the yellow box.
How is this any different from what happened except for the yellow box?
Surely the Highway Code encourages people to let cars out of side streets with yellow boxes.
The OP drove into the side of a car that was on a road they were joining.
Regardless if there is a yellow box there or not, you must give way to traffic which has priority.
If you pull out a give way, which has a yellow box and you crash into the side of a car because you failed you give way you'll still be liable. All your base are belong to us.0 -

Well, it must have been a wide road then. In which case, the OP should have checked for traffic to his right before he carried on across the road. If he did not do this then he was in the wrong.0
