Have any of you tried using the post office for banking with another bank ?
(Supposedly the PO now allows all other UK bank services in most branches !!!)
I tried to pay in a cheque at my local PO - this morning into my Nationwide account and was told that I needed a "paying in slip"
And where do you get "paying in slips" from ?
Nationwide
A total waste of time and effort ................

It seems to me that it's your own attitude that's making a waste of time and effort out of the convenient services now being offered by the Post Office, which is not a bank. What do you expect them to do with your cheque without some kind of documentary direction? Ask Nationwide to mail you some paying in slipsEvolution, not revolution0

The PO is trying to save irself by offering alternative banking services - so why do they require a paying in slip ?0 -

Post Office helpfully list the banking services they provide on their website and according to http://www.postoffice.co.uk/branch-banking-services#nationwide, cheque or cash deposits into Nationwide Building Society accounts aren't actually supported....
I will ask Nationwide whether I can or not ..0 -
I was told by the PO that if I had a paying in slip - I could pay a cheque in to a Nationwide account
I will ask Nationwide whether I can or not ..Post office counters
As a Nationwide current account customer, you can get a balance and make withdrawals from the Post Office.0 -
In January it was reported in the press that Post Office had reached an agreement with all the "major banks" (Nationwide was mentioned as included) to provide the same service to all of them, replacing the individual different arrangements with each bank.

The PO's own version is at http://corporate.postoffice.co.uk/our-media-centre#/pressreleases/post-office-and-uk-banks-partnership-secure-access-to-local-banking-services-1761968 but its careful wording seems to fall shy of claiming an identical service across all applicable banks:The new agreement will bring together the Post Office’s existing arrangements with individual banks into a single set of cash and cheque services available to customers of virtually all UK banks.
If they'd explicitly committed in January to an identical service across all eligible banks, I wonder why they would still feel the need to publish bank-specific arrangements at http://www.postoffice.co.uk/branch-banking-services several months later?!0 -
The PO appears willing to hand over cash - by way of withdrawls on most/all bank accounts
But is not willing to accept payments in....0 -

Paying cheques in at the post office amounts to no more than sending your cheque off to your bank for you. Maybe some banks won't pay for the postage?0
