Depreciation shouldn't be a worry, as you are enjoying the use of the car, better to be a healthy millionaire than not.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

I hate it when people say: 'I drive a cheap car because I don't care what other people think and I would rather spend my money elsewhere'. You drive a cheap car because you can't afford a nice car, simple as.

I'll bite then...it might all be imaginary but here goes...

You couldn't be more wrong. Some people pay out for flash cars that can't afford them. Some people live within their means and prefer to have savings.

Which person can afford the new car? The one paying £500 per month for a finance agreement and always in their overdraft limit by pay day. Or the one who chooses to run an older car but has £100k in the bank?
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

    No, sorry.

I know you live in a fantasy world, but that's plainly not true. I don't drive a flash car because I'd rather own a bigger house, and the motorhome that carries my 1000cc trackbike to track days and my 1000cc roadbike when I'm on holiday - and I'm not vulgar enough to discuss their values on an open forum - but Google "Carthago" and you'll get an idea.

When you can afford to buy a real car, then you can make judgements.

And just to be clear, I really couldn't give a flying !!!! what anyone else thinks of my car.

Mine are 18 and 20 years old. Both completely reliable and fairly cheap to run. I'm not in a financial position to buy a new car, and I am not willing to get into debt over it, so I buy what I can afford to pay in cash. Fortunately, there isn't a single new car on the market that I am interested in owning, so this is not a problem.
If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.

I drive a cheap car because I'm happy with a cheap car. I don't care what other people think and I would rather spend my money elsewhere. I can afford a new car but for me they are an expensive liability with no real benefit. I would hate to have an expensive car then have to avoid putting things on the roof or bonnet or worry about getting the interior dirty. New cars are ok but I don't need or want to own one.

Just because you buy the best car you can afford don't assume others are the same.

I could go and buy a new car today for cash..

But I run around in a 17 year old focus with a non working drivers window. ( I know how to fix but have done it for 2years )

The body works in very good nic and the interior is not bad and has enough bits on it for me to drive comfy in, better now added a reversing camera and Bluetooth radio. Only really let me down once in the last 5 years with a common focus issue at 100k

Why not buy new yet? Easy I do 4~6k a year and have 2 small kids. Wouldn't want them in a new car!!!!

Let's all be real. For most here it's either savings/owning a property paid for or buying a brand new luxury car. It's a sacrifice you all make. If you can't do both: save, buy a property AND buy a brand new luxury car while still having disposable income then sorry no, you can't afford a flash brand new car

    That's four things:
    1. Save
    2. Property
    3. Car
    4. Disposable income
You know 'both' means two things, right?
