Perhaps just offer alternate advice without remonstrating with the person whose advice you consider damaging.
I'm not looking to cause upset and I'm not accusing anyone, I'm just pointing out that from an outsiders perspective it's all rather unhelpful to the original poster.
I USED TO BE INDECISIVE BUT NOW I'M NOT SO SURE!

Yes I understand its a difficult one, as to leave incorrect/damaging advice unchecked is also extremely unhelpful also.
Play nice  Just because I am paranoid doesn't mean they are not out to get me.:j

I am feeling a bit sad, despite the rather hurtful nasty names he called me the OP clearly was looking for help by posting here but his thread has been hijacked by infighting amongst regular posters and is that really fair on him??

I too have felt sorry for the OP who clearly needed help. Not the most helpful of threads. :(

There seems to only be one solution to the "problem" on the Benefits and Disability Forums and only MSE Towers can resolve that "problem"?

Putting someone on ignore means they can make even more controversial posts?

It's a shame, it must deter people from posting for advice or giving advice. There is certainly a different atmosphere on these boards, with the absence of one poster in particular. These forums are for help and advice for everyone?

If you regularly view these boards, it's evident the disruption caused by one poster, over what has been, a long period of time.

No wonder regular users are frustrated.

On the flip side, do you ban a poster, who clearly must have problems of their own?

Or do you consider the forum as a whole?

No more to be said - It's very frustrating and tiresome.

I apologise too, for derailing the OP's thread
Fred - Where's your get up and go?

Barney - It just got up and went.

    Fair comment, indeed

To be honest I thought that the OP got a lot of good advice before the thread kicked off (that's not an excuse btw - just a statement of fact)

The link to the CAB site is a good source of information. I'd also say don't start looking for traps. That changes the way you approach the assessment, possibly to your detriment as it changes your focus. Be honest - don't just say yes or no - describe how your condition affects you on a day to day basis

And do attend. Is there anyone who can go with you as support?

For any PIP assessment to be recorded you have to give ample notice as well as provide all of the equipment that will enable two identical copies (CD or tape) to be made.
Not all assessors are willing 'to go on the record' and have them being audio recorded.

PIP does not confer the right as for ESA for the assessing company to provide the equipment.

Just to confirm, you do not have to take your own recording equipment, and they wouldn't allow it.

Ask, on the original form, for any assessment to be recorded.

It's not guaranteed, but, where possible, they do record if required.

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)

As do most AA applicants - fail miserably.

Mind you I do have experience of my wife's AA claim. She had her AA1 form filled out by the Welfare Rights (Social Services) after they came out to assess her.
She never had a F2F, the DWP wrote to the social worker who told them all about the difficulties my wife had and what equipment had been supplied.

She was awarded the day and night rate indefinitely - so yes in some cases you can get a good result.

If the forms are filled out properly, and proper evidence is supplied, claiming AA is a pretty straightforward process.

AIUI, if you want a PIP assessment recorded you have to take your own equipment. You have to tell them in advance that you are planning to do so and your equipment has to comply with their regulations. Digital recordings aren't acceptable.

Thank you and there lies the problem.

If you are not able enough to complete the form and have no source of assistance or indeed don't want to seek assistance you are already half the way there in failing,
What is proper evidence? Most people would assume that it is your prescription list or maybe the appointment card for the physiotherapist.
Fail to submit 'proper' evidence and the half fail turns into a miserable failure.

I do believe that the system that the DWP employ should be more user friendly and they should be aware that not every claimant has a Welfare Rights Officer on tap 24/7.

I'd like to respond to this but am very conscious of derailing the thread even further. As has been said this forum is for helping individuals with their problems and not discussing general issues

Perhaps you'd like to start a thread in Discussion Time about ways of helping folks with form filling and what the DWP should/shouldn't be doing

    ETA

    I've started a discussion myself

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/72517022#Comment_72517022

Can I ask everyone who is not helping with a specific problem for a particular member to use this thread for discussing DWP policy/attitudes and where to get help and support

    Thank you
