Thank you all for your comments. DH goes from feeling super positive to thinking he is unemployable
He has applied for a few jobs and registered with some agencies but nothing as yet.
I was away on holiday last week and DH has done several jobs around the house and garden and has been spending some quality time with DH which is helping build a better relationship between them.
Some emotional spending and some previously planned spending has taken place so our debt will have gone up slightly but I have managed to squirrel away almost £1000 to go towards August and September's mortgage payment. DH has had a letter to say they overpaid him last month  so he will receive less than expected this month but we should be able to save several hundred pounds towards the mortgage payments. If nothing is forthcoming DH will have to sign on soon.
DH is looking for items to sell and has listed a couple of small items today. He wants to raise a mortgage payment from sales. We don't have enough stuff of any value to sell but I won't be bursting his balloon
Luckily we hadn't booked anything for our holiday that wasn't fully refundable so no money lost and if DH is back in work we will still go visit my Dad but for a few days at very low cost or go camping in the UK.
While I was away DH and DS ate out of the freezer. Last weekend we did a freezer audit and spent just over £45 on the weekly shop including beer, wine and a daim bar cake. There is enough meat, fish and quorn in the freezer to keep us going for at least 2 months. We have agreed a meal plan and have stuck to it so far this week and have started shopping at Ald1 again.Save £10,500 - £2673.77 - 25.5%

DH got his final salary today (in lieu of notice) and it is much more than I was expecting. How can you give a bonus to someone you have dismissed???? I now have just over 1 month’s mortgage payment put aside which will cover August and a bit towards September if we cut right back.
DH tried to apply for JSA which is now universal credit but it appears he isn’t entitled to anything because of how much he earnt last year and my income which is totally unfair. If anyone knows more about how it works and can confirm this please let me know. I went on entitled to and it said we qualify for child benefit and nothing else. If it was the old system we would have got help towards the mortgage interest
DH has applied for a few jobs but nothing has come of this so far. I think he needs to ramp up his job hunting a bit but dont want to nag. He did look at 2 jobs yesterday outside his field and is quite open to something new.
We are still eating out fo the freezer although we did end up having a takeaway last weekend and bought a co-op meal deal which pushed us a fair bit over our new budget. I have budgeted £100 for the next 2 weeks. Mum is up this weekend but I should be able to cover meals from the freezer and I am away a lot next week which means there will be some dinner allowance to use towards staples.Save £10,500 - £2673.77 - 25.5%

Hi Xspender - sorry to hear your DH's job has ended.
I don't think you would have got help with the mortgage on the old system as only people on income related benefits do and your husband wouldn't have got them as you have an income.
UC is only based on the income received in that particular month for the household, they don't care about past income so not sure why you were told otherwise.
Your husband needs to claim contribution based JSA now called new style JSA (even though there is nothing new about it!!)- you have to ring up to claim this. Most of the automated lines mention UC but eventually you will get the option of claiming JSA.
This is £73.10pw and is based on NI contributions over the last 2 years and nothing to do with income of the household.
