Get rid of the thanks button

Thanks everyone (see what I did there!)

The thanks button is also used as the base of our Forum Deals Feed and Wow subscriptions, which forum members use to get notifications when something's trending on one of the Wow boards so, as you say, it has many uses.

If you feel it's being mis-used please do let us know via the report button/email.

But I think we should be clear that the present set-up means that the current button is being used for a variety of purposes - simply because the current selection of buttons is insufficient.

As others have said, it is being used to (effectively) say "I agree", it is being used to keep track of competition entries, it is being used to keep track of last post read in a thread, and possibly other uses.

I would therefore like to propose the creation of additional buttons, so that the button can return to its intended use.

Nothing more annoying (in forums terms, not life generally!) than scrolling through a thread you have been following, because you see it has new posts, only to find the new contribution is "thanks" or "I agree with that". Even more so when you are reading on a fiddly little smartphone. The Thanks button has done away with all that time wasting. Please keep it.

Hi everyone

We don't plan to remove the thanks button at the moment. We are aiming to upgrade or replatform next year so we can't promise what the Forum will or won't have when we do but we're not actively aiming to get rid of it.

Can I get in first with a request that whatever new system you come up with takes the user viewpoint into account, doesn't give users 'snowblindness' or headaches, and has more smileys readily available for use ...

We should have a 'thumbs down' type of button for balance if we have to have a thanks button. yes, and some more imaginative smileys and emojis please the existing ones are old.

There is one category forum on here that springs to mind and I have seen.

It is very out dated. There is much better ways out there but this site is still in 2009 :money:
