dOnnyoz, your post actually proves the point that many of us are trying to make- so thank you for illustrating the point.

You agree these scams are widespread which is exactly why it makes more sense to educate people to spot them, more people will stay safe that way rather than having one or two helped after the event. If people don't fall for them then these scumbag scammers will have to find a real job instead of preying on the vulnerable.

I am also quite surprised that you appear not to think that we all should play a part in helping or educating those others we know that may be vulnerable or naive, again, surely it is better to stop them being scammed in the first place?

If you're are new to being online, which might be the case if you are shocked by the high number of people being scammed, then start reading some of the forums like MSE. Over the weeks and months dozens of people have been saved from scams, every time someone asks about paying by bank transfer we explain the risks, every time someone posts that a buyer abroad wants to buy their car and send a trailer after paying by PayPal, we warn them of the scam. OK it isn't as exciting as having a headline busting name or getting in the paper, but ultimately normal regulars on forums like this have saved people from losing thousands in the first place.

dOnnyoz, I do love a robust discussion but I wonder why you feel the need for personal insults , it seems a bit desperate if you can't make your point in a rational manner.

Thirdly, the banks are totally at fault for some of this crime and I don't see why they should get away with it.
    Here's a scenario...
Buster Jack and his 'team' manage to scam the scammers by getting the bank account details from them through legitimate conversation about a sale. Using his experience (because remember, you don't have that!), he knows it's a scam. He then contacts the bank who hold that account and tell them its a mule account and provides evidence of that. The bank should close the account immediately, or at least freeze it and not allow any further transactions through it. But.... someone then does a dodgy transfer for a vehicle on eBay and pays money into that said account, say 24 hours later. Who's fault is it that transaction was successful??
I hear you now screaming that the punter should not have paid the money! But that is not going to stop - scams will always happen!
But the bank should follow their code of practice and DO SOMETHING with that account based upon the report and the evidence. But they don't and they get stung by Buster Jack because they have failed in their duty to act.
    .

So let me get this correct. Banks should freeze accounts based on the say so of people who are not part of any police/government agency? People who have no training or access to information other than what they can get out of someone who is selling a car? People whose qualification to investigate fraud is they can use Facebook?

usually the car company ones have had their account hacked, this happens numerous times usually by a phishing email or something of the like to get the login details, and this isn't made up i have seen it countless numbers of times.

Facebook face/palm...? sorry but as sharing platform facebook does a lot of good, then again you need to have friends on facebook to share items of interest such as this.

As regards Jack having the right attitude? really.

Why if you can be professional at times would you come out with such a statement?

If you read what Jack Buster and his team had achieved in helping people over the years you wouldn't make such comment.

That proves again how he is going about it the wrong way. I have not checked the company in depth just that its a registered business with accounts so not just a made up one.

Put yourself in their position. Someone posts adverts with cars for sale with your company name., but not your real contact number etc. Then someone posts up details that your a scammer???

Going to drop himself in it big time.

When something like this happens Jack contacts Ebay and lets them know that he thinks the car sales account has been hacked, they then inform the owner of the account and put the account on hold until its verified again.

Its dead simple. if i was the account holder of the said ebay account, i would much rather it be sorted out and have the offending vehicles removed from my account and then have the account back in good standing, and the fact that Jack has listed it as a scam account doesn't mean he is calling the original owner a scammer, come on wake up and smell the coffee.

Secondly when Jack Buster posts this information, he doesn't just post it as a "scammer" he posts that the account has been hacked to protect people in the event someone decides to buy a vehicle in the time it takes for ebay to take it down.

And its OK turning round and saying well people should come to MSE and check and read through the thousands of posts and read why you should do this and should do that, bank transfer, paypal, etc, but people do those sort of things, dumb, naivety whatever, even ebay say do not do anything outside of paypal on their site but people do. So they should get their just desserts should they? Someone losing £300,000 out of their bank account through bank transfer fraud, what is it tough, did you not read MSE! meanwhile the person could be stood on a tower block in London ready to throw themselves off.

Of course not. I doubt this happens either and would strongly assume that banks do their own investigations before deciding to freeze an account.

Once again, misguided rhetoric. There was nothing personal in any insults. It was more of a group thing as this thread seems to be all about "come to the MSE and we'll sort the world out" rather than saying and acknowledging the work that some individuals do.

I agree on some of your points but unfortunately people will read these posts out of context now as some bright spark has decided they don't like what I say and have deleted the comments! Very democratic!

In my original post I made it quite clear in a very rational way how Jack Buster
works. People on here just decided to brush over that and others cannot read that now as it has been deleted. Some of you are just so sensitive.
