OS Daily - Sun 30th Sept

Options
Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Sunday 30th September 2007. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Good morning all

Where is everyone? Hope those who have been struggling to get a good night's sleep have managed one now. I've been up since 6.30 and have ironed most of the uniforms for this week. Having a break as my back is hurting today.

((((hugs)))) to everyone who needs one for whatever reason.

Not much happening today. Library, a couple of shops, get organised for w**k and school tomorrow. That's pretty much it. Oh, and watch the rugby matches. My heart was in my mouth for most of the Scotland match last night. Well done for getting through to the Quarter Finals. :j

Right, the rest of that ironing won't do itself.

Have a sunny Sunday. xx

Morning Anniebooklover and all who follow - you must all be having a lie in :)

Middle dd came round yesterday afternoon and left one of her phones behind which meant that I had to act as a personal receptionist for most of the evening forwarding her calls and messages to one of her other numbers - at least five of them were to say that they were popping round to hers so it must have been quite a gathering! She had brought dgs round who has the appetite of a soldier ant - well it takes a lot of energy to upend his toybox, put lipstick on a white throw, stick cars down the loo etc etc.
today's plans are to finish flying and loads more sock kniting until little dd gets back from her daddy weekend. I asked him to buy her a coat this weekend but not a white one like he did the last time. He sent me a picture last night of her in a coat of the palest of pinks so Iguess i'm still going to be washing her winter coat every weekend :(

have a good day all :)

Chilly but sunny here at the moment - lovely. DS' party went well yesterday and the rain stayed away, glad its over now.

Today need to hoover downstairs then will be concentrating on washing and ironing, think we are going to pop out for lunch today so didnt get roast out of the freezer last night. OH is taking ds to football early this morning, stopping on the way to get the newspaper that is doing the high school musical sticker book.

Just enjoying a few minutes I have left with a cup of coffee and a quick surf.

    Have a lovely Sunday.

PS Mrs Mcawber - I pm'd you I would love the Welsh Rarebit recipe - Many Thanks

    hi there Essex-girl

sorry about the delay...here you go...I have 2 versions...

    The "proper" one

    9oz grated cheese
    6tbsp beer/guiness
    1tbs butter
    1tbsp wholegrain mustard
    splash worcestershire sauce

gently heat cheese, beer n butter over a low flame, until it begins to go creamy
add mustard and worcestershire sauce - if it looks a little curdled you can add 1tsp flour to help bind
    allow to cool
toast 4 slices of bread on both sides and then spread mixture over and place under a hot grill

And the much more economical and healthier option (which i prefer)

    4oz grated mature cheddar
    1 egg yolk
    1tbsp wholegrain mustard
    1tbsp worcestershire sauce
    2 tbsp beer
Mix all the ingredients in a bowl....spoon over 4 slices of toast and place under grill

When i first made this one, i didn't think there would be enough topping and it is to serve 4.... but i can't eat more than 1 slice  . You can obviously play with what cheese/mustard you use..... i do it with english mustard that has horseraddish in - which is lovely..if a bit warm.

Wet & grey here again today, but dryer than Japan.
Plans for today include cooking a half leg of lamb on a bed of sliced potatoes, onion & cabbage in the Remolska, I'll serve it with roast pots, yorkies & carrots, rice pud for afters, not sure if the lodger will eat it or not. As soon as I've dropped her at church I'll do my roots.
I said my DD popped round on friday eve with DGS, what I forgot to say was that DGS bought his wellies, waterproof & football with him as they live in an upstairs flat. DD did explain that he could go in the garden, but that it was raining too hard. DGS looked pitifully at hubby & said 'I like the rain' Hubby got his trainers & jacket on & played football in the rain for half an hour. He's my hero, is it any wonder I love him so much, DGS isn't even his grandson.
Hope everyone has a good day.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning all.
Lovely and sunny here this morning but still cold. But at least no rain.
Two footy matches today, first at 11 and the other at 2. Hoping for some wins today, oh and dh passed his coaching FA course yesterday, so that means im now a footy managers wife!!!LOL Not quite a WAG yet though!!!!

Both are away mathes so no tuck shop duties for me today, so plan on getting wrapped up warm and just enjoying screaming like a demented mum on the side line!!

Lamb dinner later at tea time, have someone calling to collect a ebay item, then plan on a lazy night in front of tv.
    Have a good day all

  • Morning peeps :hello:

A good night's sleep here, but more importantly, both DS's had a good night's sleep too. DS1 always takes about 3 days to get over a late night (he went to a "real" footy match weds night and yesterday I could have cheerfully strung him up by his ears :() Anyway - peace reigns .... for a while.

Did all my ironing last night whilst watching old eps of The Naked Chef, and drinking copious amounts of tea. Ooooh the thrill of it. I know Nelski was especially jealous of my weekend antics :rotfl: The joys of motherhood and no babysitters :D

Still have another load to go in WM later and I really want .... or should I say "need" to get into the boys rooms and sort their wardrobes. I have a huge pile of jeans and jumpers sitting on my bedroom floor that DS2 should have grown into but I need to separate him from his favourite but rather small items first

I still have soem lovely steak and veg casserole in the fridge so will have that with jacket spuds for tea. Dinner will be butties or maybe some unlabelled soup from the freezer - I have assorted flavours so it could be a real surprise :D

So, hugs to everyone and I hope you all have a fab day. Really enjoy reading your blog Hester - fascinating.

Catch ya later one and all

  • Morning :hello:

Think I've slept in a weird position - my left shoulder's all knotted up

I was right - the opera last night was... well... not the best ;):D

Am off to choir practice soon, then after church I am going to see my mum for the afternoon (she's going to show me her favourite dog-walking place :D) and then we are going out for a meal with my dad cos it's his birthday. The restaurant is, according to Mum, an all you can eat Chinese, but quite a posh one with waiter service. It's going to be an expensive day - the train fare to Mum's is £13 and from what Mum's said, I have a sneaking suspicion the meal will be in the region of £30 a head :o ... Not only that, but here am I trying to get to grips with my calorie intake, and this does not bode well :D

And then there's the big expense of the day - I need to buy my annual bus pass  (though that at least is budgeted for!)

Must go and get ready for church - have a good day everybody.

    Love Rzl xx
