I've no idea, you'd have to find the TV programme and provide us with a link to it if you wanted it checked. But even if he did say it that doesn't necessarily mean he was right, I've heard him say many things that have actually been incorrect, he often has to think on his feet and respond quickly so he sometimes gets things wrong, as we all do.0 -

Or take a copy/scan of the receipt for your own records before returning anything?0 -
Take a photo of the receipt?0

I will write to the head office in London of the store concerned and ask for their policy on refunds including returning receipts. I will also ask if they have any plans to upgrade their tills so that separate calculators are not needed. One puzzling action is that some till operators allow me to retain the original receipt even if all the items have been refunded. I make a lot of purchases on a regular basis at this store so making copies would take a lot of time expense and paper. I like to check my credit card statements with the original receipts in case any errors have occurred. If shopping at ASDA, M&S, NEXT, BOOTS and most other major stores the original receipt is handed back to me consistently as a matter of course as they all appear to have the same policy on this matter. Thank you for your replies and I will update when I know more.0

You don't seem particularly bothered about time expense...0 -
Am I the only one who might have only returned 1 or 2 items in 30+ years?
OP do you return a lot of items and if so why?0 -
I expect the letter to the head office will be filed under 'B' when they receive it. Is this even an issue?
It sounds like you return hundreds of items OP! Maybe a bit of research before hand will reduce the amount of items you need to return, and then lessen this 'issue' you have with not getting receipts back.0 -
If the receipt has several items, as already mentioned, the item to be refunded should be crossed through and the receipt returned to you in case any other item has to be refunded for whatever reason. You know what uranium is, right? It's this thing called nuclear weapons. And other things. Like lots of things are done with uranium. Including some bad things.

I don't understand why taking a photo of a receipt takes time and expense. Five seconds? No need to print it out so no expense.
I now routinely take a scan of important receipts via my phone and then email them to myself to store in folders on my laptop.
As for who owns a receipt, I really don't know or really care! In fact, a retailer is only obliged to give you one if you ask for it. The giving of receipts is now the usual practice in larger retail outlets. Small corner type shops or newsagents (in my experience) don't tend to unless asked.0 -
