    Are you telling me that you have never exited a roundabout into a two lane road with another vehicle next to you?


    I can't speak for Car 54 but I certainly try to make sure this doesn't happen by being either ahead or behind any vehicles in the lane next to me.


    And I would never enter, go around or exit a roundabout side by side with a HGV (or 'bus) unless it was a really big roundabout.. I usually hang back and let them do what they need to do to get round.


    (Edit: eg There was an incident on the ring road in Norwich last year when a Bernard Matthews' HGV overturned on a roundabout. Fortunately no-one was alongside it but there were feathers about for days.)
  • Bickering aside, most of you are probably right and the claim will be settled as 50/50. Nothing I can do about it.

    On a second note, I've just had a confirmation that my car is indeed a write off.

    Do any of you guys know if it is possible to take out a new insurance policy with an ongoing claim?
    I am due to renew at the beginning of June, and it is probably unlikely that this will be settled by then.

    Claim is likely to take anything from 6 months to 2 years before liability is established!:eek:

    I had a claim last year (in April) which was a slam-dunk ... the 3rd party reversed into me. (There was CCTV proof of this). The claim didn't close until March this year as the other party's insurer disputed the cost of the claim. This meant it showed on the CUE database as a Fault claim against me until it was closed, meaning my wife's policy (where I'm a named driver) was hit with policy increase and admin charge because we'd (quite legitimately and honestly) reported the April claim as non-fault when taking out her insurance policy - when the insurer got around to reviewing all the details it showed on CUE as Fault.

    1. In the absence of any signal from the HGV, how did you deduce where he was going?

    2. Not unless I was confident it was also exiting. But whether I do or not is hardly the point. You did, and it ended badly.:(

    I follow the principle I was taught, and that is to treat roundabouts like a clock. If the turning I want is up and including to 12 o'clock, I take the left hand lane. If after 12 on a clock face I take the right lane in a two lane approach, unless the road markings state otherwise.

    Police refused to attend since there was no injuries, but soon changed their mind since the situation got "heated" and other driver turned out to be a Polish national and unfortunately couldnt speak any english.
    They have however assisted only with exchanging details and advised that they do not get involved with establishing "facts".

    A colleague of mine had a very similar accident, Polish HGV driver turning right in the left hand lane of a roundabout, didn't seem to think he'd done anything wrong and freely admitted so to the attending police. Make you wonder if that's the norm in Poland?!

    Exactly the same as I was taught. Not sure whether I should be surprised or scared that it took so long to come up.
