It will work, just not speedily, initially. But since you are a tinkerer, you can optimise memory usage; https://www.aspfree.com/c/a/windows-security/optimize-netbook-windows-7-starter-for-speed/
Better to have it than not, especially when it costs nothing to do so.0 -
Thanks for the link, that is all standard stuff, but I doubt I will get away from the fact the the core OS is going to consume way more than a slim linux distro, Leaving more memory for the App which is what is important. Thanks, don't you just hate people with sigs !0

Standard stuff indeed
Up to you...... but since it will be a dual boot machine, at least they'll have the choice.
If too slow for them, they can default to Linux.0 -
I think if they see Win7 they will have expectations beyond machine capability.
I will see if I can get the Linux one going first., besides I do not have a license for Win7 and I will not even pay a few quid for a COA on eBay, goal is to spend zero. Thanks, don't you just hate people with sigs !0 -

I guessed that this is the real sticking point.
Use Rufus to create a bootable USB Flash drive.
Download and save Acer Aspire One KAV60 (AOD250)_1.29 for Windows 7
Unzip and place the three files within, on to the bootable flash drive.
Boot up with it and type kav60.bat and Enter at the command prompt window.
After the update, you can use standard ACER Windows 7 re-installation media to install Windows 7.0 -

It matters not since you'll be tweaking it into a 'lite' version if you can. That's the point of a project. To get the OS working as best you can with the existing hardware.
I'll help you out with this one. The ACER Windows 7 Starter media is in your inbox, but don't try to install it before you run the firmware I supplied earlier.0
