Premium diesel in fairly old engine?

I had a Vectra 2.2dti with variable service intervals, it never reached anywhere close to the claimed 30k - and even with long life oil I wouldn't let it get to 20k without an oil and filter change.Mr Generous - Landlord for more than 10 years. Generous? - Possibly but sarcastic more likely.0

Older type diesels will run on chip fat, cooking oil at wholesalers can be £1/ltr
Dont try it in a HDI/CR/Common rail tho0 -

"up to 30,000 miles is a lot different to saying that "Skoda say 40k"

I related what the dealer said.... :money:0 -

they call it "variable" ... i call it nuts
Skoda almost refused to do it at 15,000
No mission it ever makes it to 40,000.
My Golf 1.6TDI would have got to 18,000 or so miles, although i got it done every 10,0000 -

So not what Skoda says? Just what a service desk agent at your local dealer might have (wrongly) said to you?
And the post you put talks about "could be up to" - you said "Skoda say 40K".0 -

Its called variable because the car has oil condition sensors0

I dont expect to have to double check what a dealer says with Skoda HQ
Thanks
No. They're a franchise. Just a business that has a franchise with Skoda to sell their cars.
You've been talking to a Service Desk Agent - an employee of the franchise NOT of Skoda UK - probably on close to minimum wage.
You could just admit you're wrong here you know - you did say that Skoda had told you that the car needed serviced every 40K miles, and now thats been whittled down to some service agent in a franchise somewhere might have told you it even though the information you posted from Skoda UKs website totally contradicted it.0 -

Uh huh. And its never making it to 40K or anywhere near it because those oil condition sensors will acknowledge the fact that the oil will have needed changed.
I'd be surprised - and shocked and horrified frankly - if the condition sensors took a diesel car beyond 20K miles.0 -
I pop in a full bottle of Redex to every tank full of diesel in my 207 HDI. :cool:0
