Premium diesel in fairly old engine?

Op wants to clean his engine of sludge. If injectors are full of sludge it won't be running right so obviously not an issue
But you explicitly said:If you want to clean the injectors you want an additive in the oil not the fuel
You didn't mention sludge or anything else, so don't try to pretend you were being clever.0 -

No idea.
It could be? I've been using it for a couple of years.
I've a 2016 Passat TDI on its way to me and i've already ordered the Millers stuff - starting as i mean to go on.0 -
Premium fuel is utter !!!!!!!!, when I fill up with BP Ultimate or whatever its called, it doesn't make a damn bit of difference to my mpg / miles per tank. It's false advertising and in my opinion they should not be allowed to sell it.
Makes me wonder how many additional Nigerian children have to be killed to produce each litre of that special V-Power.0 -
When was your diesel fuel filter last changed?0

That Millers stuff looks worth a shot, I've heard mixed reviews on Redex and thought better stuff would be available from other sources. I've heard people rave about stuff like Slick50 but that Millers stuff looks good.0

Oh god.... where do i start?
Firstly, your MX5 doesnt require premium grade petrol to run on. It'll quite happily run on 95RON. In fact it wont do ANYTHING with the extra RON rating of the fuel.
Secondly, any additives that act as cleaning agents take months to work. Sticking the odd fill of premium grade fuel through wont matter a diddly squat.
Thirdly, we're talking about DIESELS. Different kettle of fish, with different issues and different requirements.
Fourthly, the advantage of a Premium Grade diesel is not any extra RON (or equivalent) capability, but the cleaning capability. THAT is what you're paying for with Premium Grade diesel, and as i - and others - have already described there are cheaper ways of achieving the same result. Thats not to say premium grade diesel doesnt work / have its advantages over regular diesel, just that there are other ways of achieving the same result.

I'd a 2005 Jaguar X Type 2.2D a couple of years ago and i ran it with the required squirt of Millers in every tankful. Ran great, gave me the cleaning agents i wanted, and costed a couple of pence per litre.
I also ran my 2010 Insignia with it last year, and as i've said i've also ordered it up already while i await my 2016 Passat getting to the local dealers.0 -
