Oh Aye
I almost did get a cat but it fell through...
...and yes, I'm having loads of fun with my wee furry friend who rushes to greet me every time I come home with that big Staffie smile and tail going like a propeller... cuddles up on the sofa to watch telly with me... sneaks onto bed my bed when she thinks I'm asleep. A Dog really is the best, cats merely tolerate us lolBUGGRITMILLENIUMHANDANDSHRIMP I TOLD EM! - Foul Ole Ron
It is important that we know where we come from, because if you do not know where you come from, then you do not know where you are, and if you don't know where you are, then you don't know where you are going. If you don't know where you're going, you're probably going wrong.

Thanks Uncanny. I've read the Williams and FForde series (more than once!) - I knew you had good taste. Will add Gaiman to me reading. Oddly enough I haven't tried any Banks, although I have obviously heard of him. Will ad him too. Targeting 150 books read/listened to this year so I need plenty of inspiration...
As for adopting a dog - we both work full time (out 7am to 6pm) so I suspect a rescue place might not approves usalthough we would use a walker service and oldest son would walk it when he got hoe from school.

Hi Lucifa
It may be worth asking - the local independent shelter didn't have a problem with me when I've explained I am hoping to work from home two days a week and get someone in at lunchtimes on the days I'm not around.
(It hasn't happened yet as I've got too many things to sort out first and am likely to be away a lot of the summer - but working FT wasn't an issue for them.)

I second the using of an independent rescue as they have less stringent rules.
My first dog was home alone for up to 10 hours per day but had the run of a secure garden.
We then fostered a dog from a rescue which we later adopted, they were quite happy with us being out of the house.
I wouldnt even say that my dogs keep each other company as they have a funny old relationship and generally sleep away from each other and they cant play together as my rescue dog is far too dominant.0 -
Morning Folks
Thanks everyone for popping in... help yourselves to the cakes n ales (virtual I know but if any of you popped round in RL you would be told to help yourself to the real ones)
I agree wholeheartedly on checking out the local rescues, they will usually do home checks but these are as much to check you out as well as your home for fostering/adopting a dog.
The lassie who done my home check later told me that she knew within two minutes of meeting me that I was a defo fosterer/adoptee. Even tho' I work during day and don't have much of a garden (communal drying area), she seen my outdoor gear around the house and knew the dog was going to get plenty of exercise. I'm also fortunate in that I work nearby, my boss is also an animal lover and I'm allowed to go home and "check on the wean" during the day
TFI FRIDAY
Been a busy busy week and looking forward to the weekend, was going to go camping with a group of friends but too many folks have had to pull out so we're hoping to rearrange for next or following weekend. Hoping for good weather as well as good company...
Have a wee business trip away next week, company are covering kennel costs for "the wean", which is a great help.
Well, rest of team are all coming in now, need to get back to it...
Have a grand day folks, catch up thru' the day and later this evening

...and what a year it has been!
Thanks to everyone on here who has popped in and read, commented, advised, supported and kicked me up the backside when needed.
I have gone from being stressed out with worry over my debts to learning to deal with them and building a better and more stable financial future.
I am going through the process of sequestration (bankruptcy in Scotland) and will be debt free in September 2021.
I am much more in control of my finances and usually have a wee bit left over at months end, which goes to EF and savings. Plans are afoot to improve on my EF and savings and to build them up.
There have been more positives than negatives this year... though the negatives were pretty traumatic...
I am still single...
I am living frugally and contentedly with my wee furry pal
