Can't comment on economy 7 tariffs but for usual electricity it works for me
Pros - you buy what you want when you need it or can afford it. No set monthly payments. Make sure you cover your monthly usage by buying discounted packs. The greater the discount the better. Never let powershop purchase for you at your baseline or standard rate as its so expensive
Also now is the best time to join powershop as the savings should be at their highest in the winter months going by past performance
Another pro is the excellent app you use to make purchases. It supplies you with all the information you want so you can monitor your costs and usage. It's the best utility company app I've ever used. However remember that the information relies on you giving regular meter readings to supply you with accurate predictions of forthcoming usage
One negative is you really never know how much you will be paying for electricity in advance. You simply cannot predict how high or low the discounts will be from month to month. It's a bit like shares. Though last winter was an excellent time to be a powershop customer with record low electricity prices for myself there really is no guarantee winter 2018 19 will follow suit
It's worth giving a go though. You're not tied in and can leave without penalty. I've been a reasonably happy punter since June 2017
Few niggles here and there but the savings make it worthwhile

I am considering switching to Powershop Top Shopper and purchasing electric using their app. 62% of my electric usage is off peak so their current quote of 7.718 per KW looks attractive. Would like to hear from anyone who has a similar consumption pattern. Any pros and cons? I already have an EON Smart meter. . .
Hi dait1945
I switched to Powershop on 13th April this year. Like you I'm on economy 7 but my night usage over the last twelve months is slightly higher than yours at 73%.
My Easy Saver (Shopper) tariff for the West Midlands is 12.43p/kwh day, 7.17p/kwh night and 16.6p per day standing charge, achievable by purchasing all power packs. The annual cost based on these rates and my usage is unbeatable! Customer Services also say that purchasing future packs will also further reduce my annual costs, which judging by the discounts now coming through on the winter packs seems highly likely. I enter daily meter reads via the excellent android app which keeps my account up to date. Today completes my third month with Powershop and my review is due today, my usage and costs have reduced month on month.
As far as I know your e.on smart meter will not communicate with Powershop and you'll have to take and enter reads manually.
So far I'm well impressed, wouldn't hesitate to recommend.0 -
Thanks for the advice. Very useful. I think I am going to try it out.0

Thanks for the advice and recommendation. I looked at the app (iPhone version) and as you say it is very impressive. I have been quoted (Top Shopper) 14.007 for day tariff, 7.718 night tariff and 15.288 standing charge. This seems to compare favourably to your rates. I am going to check about my Eon smart meter. If they want to remove it there may be a charge for replacing it. I don't think I will be able to do a meter reading every day like you, probably every week.0
-
They won't need to change your meter, you will just have to read it manually.
I would say weekly reads will be fine, just make sure you submit readings for your monthly review in order to keep the account accurate. My review was yesterday, I entered reads at 11:31 and my statement was produced at 13:00.0 -
My 1st year with electric Powershop comes to an end in 3 weeks time.
I am with Economy Energy for gas which runs out at the end of August.
I did a quote for getting both from Powershop but the prices are to me a bit misleading as the newer tariff for electric is higher than what i pay now which is 13.45 pkwh and for gas i pay 2.559 pkw with Economy.
I use 3200 kw for electric and 12,000 kw for gas.
I know prices have gone up but do i stick with Powershop electric and then find another firm just for gas or change all over to Powershop?
I have done duel fuel and single fuel comparison's on websites and i will have to pay more but i just wanted get people's feedback on the "new" Powershop tariff's.0 -
Well, took the plunge and signed up to Powershop at the start of June.
Things started off efficiently enough with the standard emails welcoming you etc and provided them a meter reading on the 24th June as requested - which was confirmed and the online account stating that I was supplied by Powershop from the 26th June.
Since then its been a disaster.
To date I still cannot access the full online account (to buy powerpacks etc), instead I am stuck at this statement...
If you have provided us with a meter reading then thanks. Before you can access your online account we need to get your start read verified against information from your previous supplier. Either way obtaining this reading can take up to 2 weeks. Once we have this verified reading we will send you a Welcome email and you can start using your online account and mobile app.
For the last two weeks now I have been phoning their customer service line every few days asking them to find out why I cannot access the full account - every time I am told that things will be sorted out within 48hrs.
Yep, you guessed it, I am still waiting to get the account running.
And now, checking with my old supplier, as far as they are concerned I am still their customer.
Not impressed at all, they are pleasant on the phone but in the background this seems to be a very unorganised and incompetent company - new users beware.0 -
Simply untrue. In no way are powershop unorganised and inefficient.. It took me around two weeks also to gain access to the shop. Just hang on and be patient it's worth it
No Idea why old supplier thinks your still their customer though. Sounds like a problem in transferring which may not be entirely powershops fault0 -
Thing is, its not two weeks to access the shop - I have been waiting 4 weeks now and multiple phonecalls and messages are not getting me anywhere.
That is a incompetent company in my book especially when you get told that you are their customer and the issue lies with their computer department not finishing the job of setting up the account.0 -
Hmm. Anyone else receive the email from. Powershop today detailing wholesale changes to our tariffs
Sounds ominous to. Me0
