Hi Essexus0

Might seem a silly question but how do I know if I'm achieving top shopper rate?
You know your Baseline Tariff prices (Day, E7, standing chg) and you know what the Top Shopper Tariff is. Express the Top Shopper Tariff as a % of the Baseline Tariff.
Then 100 – that % gives you the discount/difference between the two (typically 25-32% usually.) This is the % discount you need to achieve each month to be achieving Top Shopper Tariff.
Now look at your monthly bill – it shows what you paid after Powerpack discounts and the amount of those discounts. Add the after discounts price and the discount from Powerpacks together to give you the before discount price you would have paid if no Powerpacks had been purchased.
Then calculate the % discount you have achieved for that month by calculating total undiscounted price – discounted price divided by total undiscounted price then multiply that figure by 100 to give the % discount achieved that month.
Compare the achieved monthly discount calculated from your monthly bill with that you calculated for the difference between Baseline Tariff and Top Shopper Tariff. If your monthly calculated discount is higher that’s good. If it’s lower that’s not good.
Hope that helps/makes sense.0 -
I can only tell you how I do it.
1. On your online account Go to Bill information and click on grey box next to Electricity
2. Total up the kws used each month and amount paid for 12 months.
Subtract your annual standing charge from the total annual amount paid and divide the result by the total annual number of kws used. Then you can compare that rate per kw with the Top Shopper rate to see if you achieved it.0 -
Thanks for those 2 explanations. I'll have a go later. Mind you with a total spend of £340 pa, plus the excellent buying model of PS,. I can't believe I will achieve any significant savings sufficient to make it worthwhile changing.0

I don't check my Powershop account/usage every day or even every month, only annually. I have just received my Powershop annual summary - electricity only. The headlines are:
Baseline 2018 version 1 (unit rate 17.24 p/unit)
Top Shopper 2018 version 1 (unit rate 12.24 p/unit)
Cost £607.05 (I buy all of the Powerpacks that look sensible)
less £62.16 (17.03 p/day standing charge)
£544.89 divided by 4853 units
= 11.23 p/unit
So, it looks like I have comfortably beaten the Top Shopper rate.
On the comparison websites that I checked today the cheapest tariff available to me is Orbit Energy @ 11.621 p/unit and 23.30 p/day.
My current [pun!] Powershop tariff ends on 23 Oct 2019, so I will review the situation before then.0 -
In case you are wondering, I checked this out ...
"Following our conversation I can confirm that your annual account summary includes your daily standing charge as well as your unit rates".0 -
[Thanks neilsedaka for showing how to beat Top Shopper Rates and get cheap energy. Simply "Buy all powerpacks that look sensible"0

Another small pack released today (Fast Track Special Pack).
A mediocre 16% discount for 4 days worth of power.0 -
Mine was a risible 3 days @ 12.8%0
