The book does agree that meds need keeping an eye on and will need reducing probably. Obviously read and check. Michael Mosely himself was diagnosed as type 2 and given the usual diet advice which doesn't work so researched for himself. He took advice from the Newcastle diet originator Dr Taylor, expert diabetologist.
You'd definitely need to see your GP first and the book gives web site pages to print and give to medics with citations of the medical trials as many can be sceptical.

  • Book and recipe book have been ordered and should be here by Friday. DH has decided that he will follow the plan too more to help me on the straight and hopefully narrow. He was all for getting this underway on Saturday. I'm thinking more in terms of next week as I think we are going to have to have major shift in food plus a visit to my gp if I can. We used to be a 4 doctor practice. In the past year, 2 retired and haven't been replaced and now summer leave has kicked in for the others with no locum cover available. I need a proper approach to this even if just to get me into a dress purchased for an end of sept wedding.
Work wise, I got something off my desk in the nightmare client and then left after doing 5 hours. I lodged a cheque, cashed in scratch card winnings and called in with my mother. I also had an unpleasant experience with one of her neighbours who has designated the spot outside her house as private parking. It's on street. She told me that it's people like me who stop her from parking at her own front door and I'd no right to do this. Really? Yes it's a faff but I'm not content to be haranged in the street about parking legally. I was gobsmacked and spitting feathers by the time I went into my mum's. She thought it was hilarious.

On plus news, another client payment went into the business account yesterday. I need to get this year's insurance sorted along with a course as I have a contract that requires me to obtain a qualification by September. I'm so nervous as it's been a few years since I sat an exam.
I also got a call from an other prospective client yesterday for a tiny piece of work but it's in a sector I'm keen to remain involved with. I need to get them a quote by 9 today.
Yesterday was dd birthday. I spoke to her 3 times and she's doing ok. The Percy pigs and other items survived the journey and arrived on time. A friend also sent her a bunch of balloons which was nice. DS and a friend of them both are travelling up to spend the weekend with her to celebrate so she can hit the books in the meantime knowing there's a party in the offing.

  • You're doing better than you think. Even acknowledging the need to be more in control of your diabetes puts you ahead of most people (like my dad), who barely make a gesture towards healthy eating and just assume the doctors will sort out any problem. Good luck with the course :)

I can relate to so many points in your post INOD, even down to the dodgy toe :rotfl:

Thanks for sharing the book suggestion Verbatim. I might have a look out for it. I'm not diabetic, but am presumably high risk of being so.

Good luck with the prospective client.

Hey, just catching up with your diary after some time away from the boards.

Just wanted to say good luck for your qualification and exam - you'll smash it! :)

  • So, tasks for this weekend are to sort out business insurance forms, Irish tax clearance cert and find a course. I had identified one with local tuition in sept but no exam until dec. people my age don't retain for that long!

Yesterday I did 9 hours chargeable work, was shattered as was DH. We had fish and chips from the chippy with bread and butter. The diet book arrived. Lunch looks to be the hardest meal to manage.

I took a call from the regulator for the nightmare client yesterday. They are compelling me to appear tues after next. I wish it was sooner! Still it will encourage me to get filing, etc up to date. This client has an annual event that's happening on Sunday. I offered to attend but was told there was no need. In a way I'm relieved but....

Last night we had lots and lots of lovely rain and it's cooler today. The plan is to open all the windows as wide as we can and shift any stale air and to burn some incense that I love. The only question is how to we get laundry dried but I'm sure we will work something out.
DS and friend are supposed to be heading to Coventry to see DD this weekend. Fingers crossed that they aren't going by motorbike and that they can travel safely.
We got 2 numbers on the lottery earlier this week so have a free lucky dip tonight. Fingers crossed for that!

  • Thanks Lou. Well, I didn't do the things that needed done so they have to happen today. I did get a box of too small clothes down from the top of the wardrobe. Two items are going to charity shop, three coming back into use so are in the laundry and three are going on eBay as I can't see me ever wearing them. I then transferred what was left into a smaller box and used the larger box to gather like things together and stop them lurking around the house.

Yesterday was a NSd which was good. We didn't leave the house and I tackled a problem spot in the bathroom. Dinner was from fridge and freezer. I want to start this new plan this week but don't want to have food waste because of it. Today we are using a prepaid voucher and going out for brunch. While out I will get diesel and will do a grocery shop using my £5 off a £25 spend. This will target the store cupboard staples in the diet plan.

We have had to revert to using a clothes horse to get clothes dried inside. So worth it to have a break from the heat.

    Today I am grateful for
    Having an undemanding day yesterday

I hope you get what you need to get done today.
My book hasn't arrived yet and I've overspent on my weekly budget so hoping I don't need to do a special shop to stick to the plan, although if I do I will as feeling determined.
    Enjoy your Sunday
