Hope you had a lovely Christmas xx"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee1

We did, thank you. It was quiet which was exactly what was needed this year. So, here we are sitting in procrastination central. Lots of mad thoughts flying around about 2026 but few crystallised into intentions.
it has to be a year of value, recognising true worth and striving for it. It also has to be a year of appreciation and gratitude. I’m not aspirational enough to assume only good things will happen but I will try to recognise any positives that emerge. I am going to work on my self worth as this has evaporated over the years.Today I am grateful for

Well done on cancelling the subscriptions. It's surprising how much a clearer inbox adds to life!
Working on self worth sounds like a great idea. You have provided me with some very valuable advice over the years, and I'm very grateful for it. I hope you can see the value in your contributions."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Thanks jwil, much appreciated. So yesterday there was another realisation. I take a number of tablets each day starting with six at breakfast. Two of these are large and, for some bizarre reason, I hate taking them. Previously I have been taking them last whereas yesterday and today, I took them first. Getting them out of the way first makes life easier so that is the new habit I will try to create.Yesterday dh and I had a talk about the new year. He is working today but has committed to coming to the bank with me tomorrow to move to a non fee paying current account. The benefits we initially got with the account we have, have been eroded to the point where it no longer gives value. This should result in a net saving of £80 a year. We have also committed to making wills by the end of January. This is so long overdue especially given that I have children and he doesn’t. I also own a bigger portion of our house than he does so there are a few unusual considerations not least what happens to my business and any associated income.
today the dc are going to spend time with their father’s family so I should have free reign in the house while dh is in the upstairs office. Plans include a food sort, a paperwork sort and a work to do list.

I like your change on tablets. It is the dozens of little stresses that add up (and could be changed with a little thought) that weigh us down

My "top tip" for taking difficult to swallow tablets is to eat one or two plain walnuts after the swathe of tablets. Not too calorific, good for you, and they shift the tablets. What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?2

I may try this myself. I have a couple of omega supplements which I take after my tablets as they are in a sort of gel capsule and I reckon if they burst on the way down, they will lubricate the tablets below them. No idea if it works but the gel capsules are easier to swallow, and between tablets I have a drink to wash them down too.satchmo1 said:My "top tip" for taking difficult to swallow tablets is to eat one or two plain walnuts after the swathe of tablets. Thanks for the tip Satchmo. My issue isn’t about finding big tablets hard to take but more about resenting having to take them. The shorter the visible reminder of them, hopefully the less resentment.
yesterday was a fairly relaxed day but I finally bit the bullet and did a sort out of the kitchen which is starting to return to normal, in a good way. We opened a bag of what dh thought were nuts to find chocolate coated coffee beans and lots of them. At least that will impact positively on my sugar consumption as I really do not see the point of these.
on other news, having checked the ny honours list, I see one of my clients has been recognised for the work they do. She goes over and above for her charity. That said, I was annoyed, as always, seeing the number of primarily public sector employees how are recognised for doing their job. Isn’t that what pay and pension is for?
right, negativity out of the way for today. DH and I are heading to the bank to change our joint account generating an annual saving.

We went to the bank yesterday. I am seriously thinking of going completely online due to the recurring incompetence of staff there bur we made a request to change. Looks like the saving will be around £130 plus we closed credit card accounts that are never used. We treated ourselves to lunch somewhere we haven’t been since pre covid and were happy with the food and the service.
last night we had a cheese and steak night with dc so lots of bread ends used up. Bit by bit parts of the house are being reclaimed from Christmas with the dining table returned to its normal position as we can just use the kitchen table from now. The Christmas crockery is also going to the back of the kitchen cupboard for another year. That said, the tree remains in place until the 6th but it’s in a separate room so doesn’t infringe on day to day life.We had an interesting conversation over dinner about wills and DH and I came away from this with two distinctly different impressions. I found his interpretation quite worrying but hopefully it’ll work out over time. Anyhow, we are where we are.Today I rather madly want to clear up all the ironing and pay my business expenses to me for the last three months. Maybe I’ll even manage the work to do list. I always use mobile banking but have just lodged a complaint with the bank, as the mobile app asked me to register?! When I’ve had, and used, the app daily, on the same device, for a long time. There was no option to ask me to re-register,only register. It was very clumsily done.1
