Ok, I am paid today and will be starting my June challenge now (seems late, but never mind).

After defrosting my freezer and looking in my cupboards, I am determined not to buy so much this month - I have plenty. I live on my own (apart from my four pet rats who are fairly cheap to feed :) ) and the boyf who comes over at the weekends and expects feeding.

I am setting a budget of £60 maximum for groceries (and given the amount of food I already have I hope it will be under this), with a separate £20 fund for eating out as I know there will be a couple of occasions this month where I cannot avoid it. Last month I spent over £100 including eating out which I feel is too much for one person with a budget like mine!

Tomorrow is shopping day and Monday is payday for OH so my pay day (bank transfer from his account to mine for all bills ;)) is erm....27th  I've just checked my purse and I have £4 in there, £30 hidden for Housekeeping (will include £5 electricity if necessary) and I have £4.86 in PIN. Now according to my Excel worksheet I'm 50p down on what I should have in PIN  But hopefully I should have enough in PIN to pay for a weeks shopping *fingers crossed*

My freezer is starting to empty, my collection of tinned food (beans, chopped tomatoes, canned soup etc) is going down and yesterday I used up the end of my lard and plain flour so I have some store cupboard shopping to do. I'm going to try and put that off (apart from the lard so I can make bread) as long as possible. Maybe even until the beginning of July. I have enough food in to keep us going for a while but we'll have to see.
Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.
Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!

Quick query. For the first time I have managed to get my hands on a Somerfield deals leaflet. I usually shop at Asda, and there are a few things in the leaflet (ie, BOGOF deals) that we would usually buy. Am I right in saying that if I pickup the items in question, go to the Asda check out, point out the deal on the Somerfield leaflet, they will honour it?

This is the first time I will try this, so I'm a bit on the nervous side....

:j How wonderful Moll!!! :T I recall when we were children my mum would make use of any left over sandwiches .... cheese one's were toasted, meat one's were either toasted, or sometimes she would coat them in a thin batter, fry them to golden and serve them with salad.
Ham/cheese/chicken one's she would layer in an oven proof dish, pour over some egg/milk mix, leave to absorb then bake (like a bread and butter pudding, but savoury). Enjoy your bountiful "party" harvest :D

great ideas queenie , i hadnt thought about using them that way ,

Hi all, my first post on here, though I've been around for a couple of weeks.

I think the grocery challenge is a great idea, so I'm trying it myself. I order online and usually spend abot 80 a month (I live alone so thats all for me).

This month, I have put my order in and by the time it is delivered will be approx 65. I say by the time its delivered because I'm taking advantage of a lot of BOGOF offers this month, that start tomorrow and will apply to my delivery on tuesday.

Now I just have to make sure I don't run out and go buying elsewhere....

    Hi There

My June 4 weekly shopping cycle finished Friday and have been able to move over £110 to my "conservatory fund" for January 2006. I have spent £210 in the last 4 weeks for the 3 of us and this includes all petrol too  There is also an extra £27 sitting in my grocery account for "extra petrol" if needed. So im very very pleased :D

I have tons of food in the freezer and cupboards. Did a very good meat shop 2 weeks ago and still have a huge 7lb chicken (cooking one today for roast, then salad and sarnies tomorrow & curry Tuesday!)8 lamb chops, half leg of lamb, big bag of chicken breasts, cubed lamb enough for 2 stew & dumplings, pork chops x 8, 4 birdseye steamer fish with red pepper sauce or cheese & leek (reduced to 75p for 2 in iceland) fishfingers, cod in breadcrumbs, etc.

Dont think I'll have to buy any meat for at least 3 weeks-maybe the whole 4 weeks ;) Have tons of tinned beans, toms, mixed beans and loads of other items-so think it will be a very cheap month for me :T More funds for my conservatory!

    Well Done Penny-Pincher :T

I also have a well stocked freezer and intend to have a cheap 2/3 weeks.

Having a DFD really keeps me on the straight and narrow.

I'm all done for June, and I've actually managed to come in a little under budget - by £3.34 to be precise. Oh well ....... every little helps!

Opps! Allowed myself £120 for the month total came to £126 not too displeased as I have loads of rice in the larder and haddock in the freezer (visit to costco's). Have made more than a dent in the tins of tuna I had stockpiled:rolleyes: Still seem to have no freezer space though  perhaps because I am now freezing any leftovers for future meals still a good sign. Def need to use more up as want to have room for any fruit picking next month.
