Apparently there are a "flurry of final polls from ICM, ComRes, YouGov, Panelbase, Kantar" due out.
I'd be grateful if posters could flag them up if they see them.0 -

Will do!
One or 2 of those might slip into tomorrow apparently0 -
FWIW, to Toxic Toastie and all his sockies, if you really valued our public services you would be prepared to pay a bit more tax yourself.0

How ironic.
Only a few minutes ago you said you'd consider retirement or leaving the country to avoid tax.0 -

They don't. They think you should take home 0% as you earn more than them and are therefore evil. But they think 30% will get them elected.0 -
i dont disagree that we should try to help others but it shouldnt be an obligation. we already help the poor through our taxes. what i said was we shouldnt help others through taxation apart from the most basic of needs.
anything else should be compeltely voluntary. do you give money to every single street beggar on the street?
increasing the taxes for the rich is also a very dangerous game. there will be a point when they will get fed up and move money elsewhere. there are also incentives as well as rich business owners would also move (losing jobs AND taxes in the country) or not be as productive simply because they will think i dont want to get taxed more so there is no point working harder as i have enough to live off anyway.
i think i said middle class pay the most taxes, i think i am wrong in that i think its the richest 5-10% who pay the most in absolute terms. however in terms of % of income the middle class gets taxed the most.
There is also quite a large transfer outside of taxes for example for transport the rich subsidise the poor by buying new cars and selling them 3 years later for half the price. The rich also buy the higher margin products in shops without which the much lower margin products would be to be higher priced.0 -

But she won't, will she?
Let's face it she's nearly 61, but looks much older than that. Not in the best of health, and has made herself look a complete fool during the Election process.
I'll give her six months and a nice Pension.0 -
you talk about the poor in society. i agree they should be provided with the most basic of shelter and food and utlities only.
They pretty much are. You'll see plenty about people wasting it because people are crap with money, but you also see plenty of people who aren't getting enough to count as basic.
I am talking about rich and poor, which I mean those that don't need help and those that do. You can take it to mean those that earn more than you and those that earn less. Everyone seems to be happy for everyone earning more than them to be taxed to the hilt.
You presumably regard yourself on the rich side - you don't need help. I'd regard myself as wobbling about the boundary - I don't need help right now but it'd be good to have a safety net, which I don't mind paying for now when I can.
To be fair, I'd be all for some sort of financial education to go along with benefits, and/or some kind of pre-paid cards or vouchers to cover utilities and food to try and prevent it being wasted.
I do agree with the trust idea though - the government wastes an awful lot of money, and I'd be all for some system that allowed you to pigeon-hole money or write charitable donations off against tax due, assuming there was some scrutiny on the charity to avoid abuse (i.e. you can't just donate your entire salary/bonus/dividend to the charity your partner set up).0
