When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.
But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.
Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.
So be proud of those small steps, they really are important :money:

Morning all :hello: so nice not to be at work on a Monday
Plans for the day:
We were planning on going out but don't think we will as it's been a bit not stop recently.
Meal plan for the week, plan to do this entirely for what we have in and not spend anything else, unless we need some veg
List some items for my sale
Do some house stuff, not sure exactly what, don't think weather will be up to doing garden. Likely start by sorting girls room and see if I can move some stuff back from spare room
Some sort of exercise for free
Meals from stores
Get DD to do her homework or at least some of it
E mail mum about holiday I've booked, double check budget to make sure we'll have enough saved by the time we need to pay for it
Freeze chickpeas - didn't do this yesterday
Check on seedlings
Enjoy your day folks. Purps.0 -
Morning perps I know what you mean about it being non-stop at the moment! The holidays have brought a flurry of getting together with various groups of family & friends. We're not really used to it as are quite a quiet family and enjoy lots of down time, so all these gatherings while lovely can be quite exhausting!
Today we have plans to go to bff's in the afternoon for the 4th and final easter egg hunt! Will be lovely to spend time with them, and also nice it's not until this afternoon so we'll have some time to poodle about and relax beforehand
Not much plans for today.
All meals from stores - msg bff to see if the plan is to all eat together. If not get something out for oh & madam. I have plenty of leftover vegan stuff in the fridge. Was happy that the peeps we were with yesterday tried and liked the food I took. Vegan stuff doesn't seem to look the the most appealing despite being very tasty!
check banking - haven't done this for ages!
Pot on some tomatoes. Look through seed tray to see what is next for planting
water any seedlings that need it. Currently obsessing about my courgettes sown 8 days ago that haven't germinated....
really must do my masters application tonight
make decisions with oh about what festivals we are going to this year and buy the tickets that we need to
I have 2 baskets full of dried washing that needs putting away - just can't seem to get on top of it at the moment!
Ok that will do. Hope you all have a lovely last day of the long weekend xDF as at 30/12/16

Morning Purps, DNMS and all who follow :coffee: :hello:
I didn't get my entirely relaxing day as planned. I had to do an emergency freezer defrost when dh noticed that the small freezer door wasn't closing properly. It took hours! And now I have some stuff from that freezer that I have to cook up and use up today.
DH proved me wrong yesterday by getting up and being ok-ish for the day so I didn't see the grand prix, but I saw hours and hours of football. I was just pleased that he was ok for the day.
Had a rough night last night, and have only managed about 4 hours of sleep in all, so I will probably sleep later on if I need to.
Other plans include:
Trip to L1dl for veggies to do some batch cooking
Load of washing
Maybe a bit of marking - the guilt about leaving this is starting to get to me
Minimal housework
Maximum crochet (with my sore hands from freezer defrosting)
Batch cook to use up leftovers and the freezer stuff
Have a good day everyone - enjoy bank holiday (raining here). Not giving up
Working hard to pay off my debt
Time to take back control

Morning all, I've woken up with a headache and still massively tired. I've taken a couple of painkillers and made a nice strong cup of tea (in case it's caffeine withdrawal!) and I'm back in bed.
I'm hoping after another hour of sleep the headache will have shifted and I'll feel up to putting up the trellis but if not I won't beat myself up about it, it can wait.
I've no idea yet what we'll do for lunch or dinner but there is plenty of stuff in the freezer and I'll no doubt be on the YS hunt later for sandwiches for tomorrow's lunches.
Have a good day allMake £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)
December £361.54, November £322.28, October £288.52, September £374.30, August £223.95, July £71.45, June £251.22, May£119.33, April £236.24, March £106.74, Feb £40.99, Jan £98.54) Total for 2017 - £2,495.100 -
Hi April Awesomees,
A day off.
The news from Dowd Towers in brief is: Our house needs a tidy and the back hallway needs redecorating.
So, better get cracking. I'll add to this list as I do stuff.
Debt Free-Nillionaire Continuity Plan Year Two:
* Checked online banking.
* Need to go buy some paint. The hallway that leads to the garden has fallen foul of mould and general Winter-iness. Find paintbrushes.
* Use grout in hallway from supplies.
* Use mould-killer in hallway from supplies.
* Pin DW's trousers so they can be shortened and worn.
* Re-advertised 10 used craft beer bottles on eBay.
* Tidy house so that I feel in control of it.
Off to raid the tool cupboard now.

Morning all
Thanks for starting us off for the week PF
Not raining here, but overcast most of the time, windy and chilly. Had a great night's sleep after being away for 2 nights - nothing like your own bed
List for today:
Water pots in the garden - this is a bit of a mission, as I have LOTS of pots and containers and was away for a couple of days  Also need to water my little fruit trees. I have a miniature quince tree in a big pot, and 4 little minaret fruit trees at the back of the raised border. They are all in flower at the moment, and are very cheery Back garden pots and fruit trees done, weeded part of raised bed, planted out some miniature daffodils from a hanging basket that had gone over in a space between a couple of the fruit trees, so I can enjoy them again next year
Wash dog - might get OH to do that while I tackle the watering I did it, mini mutt is all clean and curly now :rotfl:
Pack an ebay item ready for posting tomorrow Not done yet Now done
Clean and put away some sales stuff that is lying around Done
Price up some items for sales unit tomorrow Done, all boxed and packed in car :A
Check banks One done, must find the random number thingy and do the other! Both done now, transferred some money as one account was looking a bit squeaky
Check for surveys None today
Make a kedgeree type thing with rice and smoked fish, for dinner (determined to use up some stuff before I have to go shopping again!) Done, also used some eggs gifted by DD, some shallots from Lidl, herbs from the garden ,,, and there is enough for tomorrow as well
Pick and cook some rhubarb from the garden Picked, must prep and cook in a minute Now done, will do for breakfast fruit for the coming few days
Dog walked twice
Covered potatoes and fruit trees in fleece, as it is supposed to freeze tonight
Paid milk bill online, not moneysaving, but had to be done - was only £7.96, so not the end of the world!
Right, see how I get on with that to start with!0 -
Realised that I posted this on last week's topic, and didn't include my plans for the coming week!
So today I did a car boot sale, bagging £81 for my emergency fund - that takes my total up to £366.34 since I started selling thing last week I also took a thermos and a sandwich so that I didn't spend any money there
So, I know this won't last forever, as I'm going to run out of stuff to sell, so this is how my week is looking:
1. I've just picked up 12 loaves for £1.20 - I've put them in the freezer to defrost as I need them, so this is a massive saving of £13.20 for us over a week or two
2. I'm going to take a thermos to work each day rather than buying more coffee pods for my machine
3. I'm going to put some more stuff up for sale on Shpock, Gumtree, and Facebook to try and raise this emergency fund a bit
4. I'm on a countdown at Slimming World so that's paid for already (I know people may think £49.50 for 12 weeks is a lot, but it works out at £4.13 per week max and that's my full 'social' budget - I've made some fab friends and that's our night to meet - I don't spend anything else on socialising)
5. The washing machine ad tumble dryer are officially out of action this week - my hubby has agreed to hand wash everything and we'll be pegging the washing out to dry each day (or on indoor airers if the weather's naff)
6. We've managed to pick a couple of free water butts up to collect any rainwater - this will be used to water the garden
7. I've done a batch-cook using only things I already had in the cupboards and freezer, and the meals I've made will do lunch and dinner for 2 weeks - and plenty to cover the same time period in cereal for breakfasts
This is my first major 'Operation Money Saving' week, so fingers crossed for me guys!0 -
Well that's the hallway revamped on a £8.75 budget.
Grout: 50p,
mould killer: £1,
sandpaper: 25p,
gloss paint: £1.50,
emulsion: £3,
lampshade: £2.50.
Also put up second-hand hooks from stores for the hosepipe and the laundry bag. 0p
I'm absolutely cream crackered now.

Hello everyone,
Not sure where my earlier post went as its vanished... or perhaps I just forgot to hit the post button
Tomorrow's going to be a struggle to get up and get the kids back into a routine... all those late nights and sleeping in is going to show!
My list for today is:
- Did a workout from You Tube earlier, 30 mins and 311 cals gone!
- 1 wash load done and drying outside
- Entered a few competitions
- Been on Swagbucks
- Nothing on OnePoll for a few days now
- Moved some money into my savings account
- Walked to the local shops
- Tackled the mountain of ironing
- Lunch from cupboards
- Sainsbury's delivery arrived but I didn't like the alternative Salmon they gave so it went back. That messed up my dinner plans but changed things around so it's Chicken tonight... will pop into Lidl tomorrow and see what they have
That's it from me, have a good one... now I'm going to Submit Reply! :rotfl:0 -
