Neighbours cigarette smoke

A few posters seem to have read the OP as wanting the neighbour to stop smoking in their flat permanently. I read it as wanting DIY type solutions to the problem. Perfectly reasonable! I'm not sure it is possible to eliminate entirely though. Flats are just not a nice way to live

But air pollution caused by cars kills lots of people still.
I smoke, although only outside, never in my own home let alone someone elses, but my car is an electric car so I don't pollute that way.
I bet I have a lesser overall effect on the health of others than you
.
A definite maybe! Jury is still out.

I have a similar problem. I live in a flat and there's a shared landing that is enclosed by a door to the stairs and the front door of my flat and two others. Regularly I come in and this enclosed area reeks from my neighbour's cigars. It also gets into my hallway.
The first time this happened when I'd just moved in, I went and had a chat to the neighbour, and he apologised and promised to open his window. It made no difference of course, so my solution is to get one of those draft blockers for my front door. Doesn't help when I'm in the enclosed space unlocking my door, but at least it doesn't get into my flat.
My other neighbour's solution is to start yelling, at no one in particular, how badly it stinks each time he encounters it.0 -
You may be one of the rare exceptions but as someone who owns a flat and has had 4 consecutive smoking polluters put below our flat and not one of them has done anything to keep their cancer smoke from entering our home, you'd have a hard time trying to convince me that smokers are not inherently selfish people. Also, equating smokers with religious groups is ridiculous and probably offensive to those religions. Smoking isn't a religion, you can decide to stop the same way I can stop drinking. Smoking is a habit that has a nasty habit of affecting other people's air-space whether the smoker wants to or not! smoke travels, it is a gas and it gets in and permeates in places where you wouldn't think it could. The effects of second and third hand smoke are well documented and by invading other people's air-space you are literally creating the possibility of cancer for them. If smokers want to give themselves and their ''loved ones'' cancer then that is their business but they SHOULD NOT invade our choice of clean air. I have literally had enough of these inconsiderate smokers trying to give my children cancer. Also, to the OP there is a thing called statutory nuisance you can read about it. I'm seriously thinking about it myself as I don't want my kids breathing in somebody else's cancer sticks anymore when we choose not to smoke.Heliflyguy wrote: »What a nasty generalisation, I would as a smoker make every effort to help in this kind of situation.
Why would I think its my right to pollute another home, most odd, do smokers go round blowing smoke into letterboxes now.
Still so easy to have a pop at smokers, bet you wouldn't say the same with ref to race, religion etc.0 -

Good Lord (pick any religious link you like) you join to drag up a 19 month old post to rant against smokers lol.
My reference to religion was regarding the way people feel its ok to have a pop at smokers but wouldn't do the same to a belief or race and lets face it religious belief has probably done away with more people including children than smoking ever has or will.
Other peoples air space! whats that all about? its everybody's air space.
Alcohol can cause Cancer too you know so maybe you should give up the Cancer jars.
If you're so concerned then I would suggest you move or invest in some air purifiers as you seem unable to change your neighbours behaviour.
You will be happy to know I am now and for the last 6 months happily exhaling vape into our air space, your welcome

I'm more concerned about all these school run mums who are too lazy to get up a bit earlier and walk the kids to school, so prefer to clog everyone else's kids lungs with toxic exhaust fumes causing daily gridlock outside schools instead.
I'd rather have a fag than breath all those noxious exhaust fumes in ta.0 -
