I used to be a lurker (different account that I can't remember the details for) on this particular part of the forum here years ago, from 2007 through to 2011 or so and am sure this sub forum used to be a lot busier. Now, I'm seeing hardly any new threads on here..what happened?

EU ref and Scottish 'independence'I think....0

Yep, exactly as michaels said. They are like twin black holes that suck in any other thread that may have been started previously. But then if you look at pretty much any economic story, there's a line connecting it to Brexit, or Scottish Independence. It's very hard to start a new thread that doesn't touch on one or the other. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

Also house prices are stagnating, it's become a boring spectator sport. Speculators are looking elsewhere, renters have given up hope.Proudly voted remain. A global union of countries is the only way to commit global capital to the rule of law.0

It was all repetitive/boring and never went anywhere .... and/or there were those "over-informed" types quoting high falutin' sources and using long words to get their point across.
I stopped reading many years ago.....

I too was a lurker for years but was persuaded to participate a year ago for reasons including those described below:
A cabal of the more ignominious posters drowned out much of the genuine debate for a while.
Distraction and downright lies together with childish name-calling and derisory comments directed towards posters disagreed-with became commonplace.
Leading (after various disagreements) to a number of posters being no longer wanted by The Forum Team on these forums.
On both sides of the spectrum, I should add.
Also during this time along came our referendum and as a few others have said, this turned into a kind of black hole for anything not Brexit-related.
The ignominious cabal mentioned before remains at least partially effective in dissuading new threads by their continued use of purely argumentative and/or derogatory posts which otherwise generally contribute absolutely nothing to the debate.
A quick look through a few pages on almost any of the threads is sufficient evidence of this.0
