Debate House Prices

In order to help keep the Forum a useful, safe and friendly place for our users, discussions around non MoneySaving matters are no longer permitted. I come on here a lot less now.
The quality of debate went downhill (see above), but also I'm pretty happy with my lot in life and I reckon a lot of people that come on here are unhappy on some level.

I also think that is the problem, it introduces something that I don't enjoy being involved with.

Wasn't a regular visitor back then so can't tell if it's any quieter, but it seems to me that this board and the 'discussion time' board are catering for much the same topics. Why not merge them?

Are you asking for civil unrest?
    Riots?
Is there not enough disagreement of an often unpleasant nature in both threads already?
    :D
Though I agree, the subject matter most frequently discussed often overlaps and there are often topics in both forums discussing the same issues.

Agree with this, don't really know why people don't talk economics in the economics sub forum.

(points at posters on the Scottish independence thread)
  • As one of the people Tricky is talking about ( I'm not his favourite gal on here ). I disagree.

I've been here as an ordinary poster for 8 years now, and there's always been a Scotland based and usually long running thread in this area as long as I've been here. They are occasionally moved down to DT which I don't mind personally. But have always sprung up again in some form back up here. I only started the last one.

The Brexit thread is far newer obviously.

As a large busy forum owner myself ( since 2005 ) admining over 10,000's of past and present members and nearly 2 million plus posts and threads in that time. In my own experience people only really bother posting and participating in threads which interest them. Will scroll past anything that doesn't. People post on these two threads because the topic interests them. It's really as simple as that.

It also makes sense to keep single topic area and discussion in one thread. Otherwise every single news item, article and commentary even vaguely related to the matter has someone starting a new thread citing the new article or latest news. This way all Scottish related news and articles are kept neatly in one thread, all Brexit related matters in the other. Rather than 2 or perhaps 3 new threads being started daily as things move forward, and the board both here and/or on DT ending up cluttered with loads of very short and overlapping threads.

    My 2p's worth.
It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?

It all went downhill when Genarali left. It is crap now.
Proudly voted remain. A global union of countries is the only way to commit global capital to the rule of law.

I too was a lurker for years but was persuaded to participate a year ago for reasons including those described below:

A cabal of the more ignominious posters drowned out much of the genuine debate for a while.
Distraction and downright lies together with childish name-calling and derisory comments directed towards posters disagreed-with became commonplace.
Leading (after various disagreements) to a number of posters being no longer wanted by The Forum Team on these forums.
On both sides of the spectrum, I should add.

Also during this time along came our referendum and as a few others have said, this turned into a kind of black hole for anything not Brexit-related.

The ignominious cabal mentioned before remains at least partially effective in dissuading new threads by their continued use of purely argumentative and/or derogatory posts which otherwise generally contribute absolutely nothing to the debate.

A quick look through a few pages on almost any of the threads is sufficient evidence of this.

I still read.... but exactly this.

Couldn't be bothered with an argument over absolutely every word. And the rewired stuff is particularly boring.

    2 observations.
    1) I noticed threads kept getting deleted and so I suspect this deters thread creation.
    2) Every forum I've ever been party to ALWAYS has people saying the forum has gone down hill. I see threads on this very topic everywhere, from music production forums to Anglng forums, it's par for the course.

Look out for a thread five years hence claiming the forum of now was better.

It's like people saying music and film was better in thier day, it's just something we say.

    Ohhhh yes you could.

I have no idea how you two keep getting muddled up. :p
