sherry trifle? (trifle sponges, splash of sherry, tinned fruit, jelly if liked, pint of custard and whipped cream - with some macaroons or chopped almonds on top if you want it to look really posh!)
home made salsa? (with some value nachos for dipping!?) (dead easy, chop and drain a couple of cans of nice tinned toms, add a bit of finely chopped onion, a chopped garlic clove and sliced chillies to taste, mix together with a dollop of tom puree, a little sugar and a splash of lemon or balsamic)
Some pretty iced fairy cakes?0 -
What about homemade quixhe?
Or pizza whirls - roll out puff pastry and spread with pesto or tomato sauce/tomato puree with basil/oregano, sprinkle with grated cheese - parmesan or cheddar, whatever you have! Roll up like a swiss roll, slice into slices and bake till they are puffy and golden.
Maybe pakora and a dip?
Chicken drumsticks?
Potato salad?
Cheese and biscuits?
Homemade cheese straws & dips?0 -

This is a great thread. I have my son's party (he will be the grand age of three!!) on saturday and family and a few little guests have meant that it is now 19 people!!! EEeeck! We are trying to cut costs this month to try and save for a new back door.
My mother is fussy and although she doens't say it looks down her nose at shop bought food. But I have limited time and skill and money (not much going for me is there? hehe).
Any ideas? The weather is promising to be warm (metcheck today - although it did say rain yesterday) but BBQ isn't really little person treat and meat costs loads ( I like to buy good quality so eat it less often myself).
There is the obvious sandwiches and I thought of wraps. Not that keen on pasties as watching my wastline.
