And status is jealously guarded within the medical profession itself - surgeons, who consider themselves a cut above their physician colleagues, insist upon being addressed as "Mr"!
How do I address my female consultant surgeon? She introduced herself, at a consultation, "Hello, I'm firstname lastname."

To address her as firstname seems a little too familiar and possibly disrespectful of her position/status.

If you are uncertain of her marital status then you would, according to convention, refer to her as "Ms", otherwise, "Miss" or "Mrs" would be correct.

Not many physicians have doctorates, so the use of the title, "Doctor" is entirely honorary.

I once received a letter from my bank addressed to Mr (I'm Mrs) S (not my initial) X (my initial) Surname

When I rang them it turned out that they had assumed that as my details were showing as Mrs X Surname, that fact that I was a Sergeant meant that I must be male, hence the assumption that the 's' from Mrs must have been my first initial.

I had quite a job assuring the call handler that yes, I was female and yes, I was a Sergeant.

I hope you made a complaint about this so that others don't face this sort of nonsense too!

I have respect for 3 consultants, and none whatsoever for 3 more.

None for the one oldphart male, who was responsible for incorrectly diagnosing and treating me for 15 years, thus making my problem worse. None for the female who brought over a dozen students into an examination of my problem, without asking my permission.* None for the other oldphart who messed up a simple Op to my wife's right hand, causing paralysis of the hand and loss of the job she loved.

Respect for the young consultant who saved my spine and cured my paralysis, by repairing the Oldphart's damage. More respect, for the consultant surgeon who operated on me as an emergency, cancelling his holiday flight to do so. And more respect for my present consultant surgeon, who in a couple of weeks will operate upon the malignant growth upon my pancreas and remove my spleen.

*I would have given permission, if asked. This woman was one who ignored my spinal damage and stated upon my notes that I "..had a strange gait." My GP was incensed at that and wrote to her superiors. She left the NHS and set up in Private Practice.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.

My goodness you have many to choose from.

Here"s a few from my good friend Sid the Sexiest.

Alright darling..bet them things give ya back ache.

    Alright Geezer (for a male)

Alright Geezer bird (assuming the female wanting to be male)

Alright Rusty Trumbone (that would be to welcome someone who likes the same sex as themselves)

Of course these are all highly offensive and must never be used the modern society we all enjoy and everyone must be offended for all those who could be insulted, even if the target isnt offended we must make sure we are still offend for them.;):D

I've recently experienced Americans who use ma'am and sir when addressing people as well as miss or mr first name.
Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.
