I've quit everything. Now what ?

LL, I wouldn't get rid of photos. The trouble with storing them as electronic files, whether it's on a computer of some kind, cloud storage, memory stick or SD card, is that they can become corrupted, degraded, lost, or simply because technology has moved on. PCs don't come with floppy drives anymore, and a lot of laptops don't have cd or dvd drives either.
In a hundred years time, nobody will come across old photos of distant relatives who are living now, because everyone stores all their photos electronically. Whereas, I've got a photo on my wall of my great (great?) grandma, who was best friends with Lily Langtry, dressed in a sequinned leotard! (She was a dancer.)0 -
Good point gigervamp
I'll be keeping those0 -
Oh no I won't be getting rid of photos, just weeding them out. A lot ofthem aren't even in albums, just stuffed in boxes.
One thing though.....many of the colour ones taken in the 70s are starting to deteriorate, I can't see them lasting the way the old black and white ones did.
What's the best way of preserving those.0 -
Not 100% sure on how to preserve old photos, but scanning them ( and printing them )ensures they're not lost forever .0
-
Yes. That's what I thought. I could at least scan those before they deteriorate even further. In fact DS2 has already done the worst ones.
You were up early this morning.;)0 -
Yes LL:) a bad night , where I didn't sleep much at all.
Probably because of the humid weather.
So this morning , I was just about to go for a long walk .
( I am starting again ), and I found a package in the communal area for me and it was opened and half of the contents are missing .
The invoice is missing as well .
The Ebay seller omitted to put my name on the package , but my flat no.and address were on the package . So I put a couple of stickies on the package explaining it had been open .
I got back , and the package was leaning against my door .
No note . Nothing .
Is it the Sri Lankan couple at the top flat, who couldn't read the address? Was it one of the children from the flat below that ?
Was it the postman/ woman?
It means I will contact seller on Tuesday telling them I haven't received the package . It is partly their fault as the print on the address was just visible .printed with my name not on it .
Annoying
Just did the long walk anyway . I detest wearing hooded jacket .
It's too small for me anyway tbh. It blocks out a lot of sound and needs constant adjustment when walking .
I home and drying off now0 -
Just received an email from the Ebay sellers telling me that my order has been despatched today ?!?
Confused . Com0 -
Glad to hear you're not getting rid of all the photos LL. I was going to suggest the same as AC, although I've noticed that home printed photos don't seem to last very well either. We've got one of our neices that's a few years old and it's become very faded, as if it was stored in strong sunlight, but it's in a north facing room.
AC, I don't think you should tell the ebay seller you haven't received it, as you have, and when an investigation takes place, it will show that it was delivered. You'll either cost the ebayer money, and/or put suspicion on the totally innocent person who delivered it. Not a very nice thing to do.
You should knock on your neighbours doors and ask them who opened it, as it was obviously someone in one of the flats.0 -
I always find honesty the best policy AC. I think I would contact the ebay seller saying the package had been delivered but because incorrectly labelled it has been opened by someone else and some contents missing. Investigate further if you suspect someone. Your block of flats is not huge so a few knocks on doors shouldn't take long.
That way you can say to the seller you have done everything you can and maybe in the future they can take more care with labelling. Do you know if half the contents are missing? Maybe the seller sent it in two separate packages and you will get the other half tomorrow.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. Hi enthusiastic
What I ordered was an insect net , which comes with double sided tape. The white package was ripped open and the box inside looks crushed . There was no invoice .
The bizarre thing is that I got the email , saying it has been dispatched today .
When I first looked at the possibility of buying the flat , I rang the doorbell of the person at the top flat ( I'm on gd flr).
I was trying to find out what the potential neighbours were like ,
and the man didn't seem to speak much English . He didn't want to come down to see me . No problem . He obviously never knew who I was st the time . I briefly shouted up and explained that I wanted to know what the freeholders and neighbours are like .
The woman with the 2 young kids ( probably 5-7 years old) seems pleasant enough .
I won't do anything tbh. I may get a knock on the door later .who knows?0
