Well, much as it pains me to admit it (are you listening mikeD?)...it seems my beloved OH is better than I thought at this mealplan/budgeting lark!:o
*looks downwards and squirms toes*
I'm afraid I much maligned him when I said he'd have mucked up my budget when I left him to fend for himself for a few days......far from it!!:D.
OK, so he bought himself a takeaway one night (not from my food budget) but on the other nights he looked in the freezer and found himself some of my "meals for one" - I'm SO impressed.
I had to go to Sainsbury's yesterday for bread and I've been to Mr T's today to top up on fresh veg, a few bits of meat etc and some stuff towards my christmas cake. Have just updated my signature and, as you can see, I am within budget so far...yipee! Long may it last!
Now I'm off to the recipe indexes to find a recipe for humble pie.....anyone care to join me in a slice?0 -
Have got my tesco order booked for tomorrow at a guide price of £106 but used a £10 voucher and ordered a lot of bogof including 4 tins of sweets for xmas (which are not included in my grocery challenge so that is £20 to take off straight away will post final total tomorrow and update my sig then as well. I still have £22 from last weeks budget which i have put away towards a cc bill so i am paying over the min payment yaaaaaaaaaaay
Final bill came in at £72.10 so not too bad, delivery driver was not very nice and quite abrupt and he didnt tell me they had substituted some things and am now wondering about tesco staff, i ordered 2 packs of cat food (6 tins in each pack) i recieved 1 pack of cat food and 1 pack of DOG food and my invoice says they sent me 2 packs of dog food is there anything i can do about it? i did say no substitutions on my order and now my poor kitty hasnt got enough food for the next two weeks0 -
elly2... phone your local tesco and ask them what to do. They will take it back but I'm not sure if you'll have to take it in store or they will pick it up when you next place an order?April 2021 Grocery Challenge 34.29 / 2500

elly2-I have had that happen to me before dog food instead of catfood, luckily I noticed and gave it back! I would ring them and kick up a fuss!
Not doing too well on the challenge this month, have ordered a fruit/veg box which is coming friday so hopefully I can make some nice meals out of it and freeze some.
Might do a shop at netto or lidl this month to see what I can get for my money!DFW no.630!

Thanks Daisydoll will ring tomorrow, i have never thought of ordering a veg box they seem so expensive for my budget, i bought some pots, organic carrots, turnip and parsnips from tesco because they were all on special offer lol, my eldest will eat veg as will my 3 yr(green trees and white trees to her lol) old but the other 2 will not entertain it (am sat looking at a very ripe bunch of bananas wondering if i can create something with them) so usually i pick veg/fruit up at the markets where it is really cheap

Try this for 4 o clokers for a wee change ....
200grams ginger nut biscuits (value / smart price is fine)
100grams desicated coconut (10p at asda just now)
100grams sultanas
50grams butter
400grams plain chocolate (value / smart price is fine)
Melt the chocolate and the butter together.
Break up the biscuits... not to a powder... some small, some larger bits
Mix the coconut and sultanas with the biscuits...then add to the chocolate.
Put into a lined / greased baking tray and chill.
Cut up into bite sized bits
yumyumyum
You can add 50grams of crystalised ginger cut up into little bits if you wish a greater ginger flavour.
You can use digestive biscuits if you wish....
You can use milk chocolate if you wish.....
And it freezes okay too.
This sounds yummy but a bit high in fat/calories and as I am trying to keep his weight under control I think it might not be a good idea (perhaps as Christmas treat). I might make some to take to the office though! It's my birthday soon and we usually take cakes/biscuits in to share with the rest of the girls! Thanks.0 -
elly2-I have never ordered a veg box before either lol, I normally just buy what's on offer in the supermarket. But am giving it a try, will see how much I get for my money!DFW no.630!

Hi, I'm new to this so i thought i would say "hello" and i would like to give this a try! I am a single mummy of one little boy who will be 5 on 20th Oct. I have no freezer, a small fridge and i am totally rubbish at cooking and have no ideas of how to plan! I also don't have a car so i usually walk to the shops every day, see what we fancy and carry it home in nice light bags! Spending £10 or so in the process!! Any advice would be greatly appreciated as you all seem experts at this! Thank you, xx~*~*~*dizzyb~*~*~*0

Welcome, dizzyb.
You should find lots of ideas on here - but I for one appreciate how difficult it can be without a freezer. Remember years of not having one when my kids were small. Will your little boy 'eat his greens', fresh fish, chicken etc? - if so you should be able to get by quite well. Most of the recipes that you find on here will probably be for around 4 people (apart from the cooking for one section) - so you may find yourself having to adapt the ingredients.
Good luck with having a go - it's great to try while your little one is so young. Hope he learns to be adventurous with his tastebuds. My DS1 (age 34) is only just getting adventurous with veg - years of only eating carrot and swede or sliced green beans; he's now discovered mushy peas and broccoli :j but still won't attempt cauli, sweetcorn, sprouts or cabbage! Still, his palate ain't my problem any longer - his gf can try as hard as she likes!0 -

Yes Moniker... I dread to think what the calorie count is on this.
But on the plus side... because it is very sweet you dont eat a massive amount... allegedly:rolleyes:
One of my friends thinks that it is too chocolatey... but I dont think that is possible ....... Is it ?0
