Oh, I can't play this month... I was doing ever so well in September (as per my sig) and then I went and broke my leg. So DH is in charge of the shopping and we are living off ready meals for the next six weeks or so - the budget has gone to rat tish.

I can't wait to get back up and about so I can wrestle the reins back from him.

Good luck to everyone else - I'm ever so envious... how sad is that?!

Done a bit of a shop tonight, just topped up my pasta and stuff, cleaning stuff, soap powder blah-blah. However my bill came to £61.44 but amongst this was a coat costing £50.00 so I,m not counting that in my g/c. Also got 2 wee rug things and a pack of 6 wine glasses for £1.73!!! too good to pass up (rugs £1.50 each, glasses £1.73) left them in. My total bill before bogofs and 342,s ect was £97.35 after bogof ect £84.49, after using coupons £61.44, then take off the price of the coat, £50, and voila! £11.44. I,m happy

    Hello everybody

I've been around MSE for a couple of months now but have never been on the GC before. I've just spent the last hour or so reading all the October Challenge postings - I get paid on 15th of each month so not sure where that comes into as regards a monthly challenge:confused: .

I live with my partner and I tend to be responsible for the main shopping each month which I think I manage fairly well - but he gets bits and pieces of shopping as well each week (but usually treats stuff) which actually disguises how much we spend. I wish I could get him 'to heel' on this!

    I am hoping to:
    a) empty the freezer (to defrost before restocking during Nov/Dec for Xmas)
    b) cut back on my usual monthly budget (around £200 at Asda for 2 adults/one spoiled-rotten cat/occasional help for DD and 2 DGrandkids)
    c) start meal-planning
    d) eat healthier and lose weight
    e) waste less
    f) stop the convenience food

I consider myself to be a savvy shopper - when I read Martin's shopping tips regarding cutting down to shop's own/budget ranges I realised that I've been doing this for YEARS due to reduced circumstances in the past. More recently I've become a great fan of ASDA whoopsies (yellow labels), started checking out the rollbacks (but comparing prices as not all are the bargains they first appear!) and buying extra of what I know that I'll use when on rollback, only buying what I know I'll use, buying bread when whoopsied and freezing it, using my slowcooker and then not allowing OH to get near it BEFORE it's cooled enough to portion up and freeze!

Good luck to everybody and let's hope that we can all come in on or under budget this month!

Well so far this month I have spent the grand total of £11.01 :D and I have enough in to make meals for the next 2 days. Will be doing a meal plan for next week and shopping on Monday for essentials. I am still using up cupboard and freezer stuff so am really pleased with the low spend so far this month. Next week I plan to make a spag bol ( 3 portions ) a chilli con carni ( 3 portions ) a tuna & veg pasta bake ( 4 portions ) and freeze the extra portions so that I dont have to cook the following week :p I made a batch of 12 muffins last week and froze them so that I can take 1 a day into work with my packed lunch. I also have enough veg left over to make a soup tomorrow which I will freeze for lunches when I get sick of sandwiches.

    a big WELL DONE EVERYBODY

and I hope your leg heals well Curv ((((HUGS))))

    Welcome to the GC Ollibeak!

lots of people run the challenges from mid-month to mid-month, so just tot up spending from 15th of the month for the 4 or 5 weeks of October.

re getting your partner to heel :D is he bribe-able? suggest that you put all the money not spent on little treats into a jar and treat yourselves to a bigger treat that you'd both enjoy? ;)

Edited to say, I mean the 4 or 5 weeks till your next payday!! oooops! :o
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

  • Wow another £36.44 gone! Where does it all go? I seem to be spending a fair bit on basics that are running out like baking goods (suet, bicarb, flour, yeast etc).
The months menu plan is working out much better than my old weekly one. I know exactly where I am and have virtually all meals in for the month now, it's just the milk, bread and loo rolls.

Nearly out of cash already but staying positive - just.

I have noticed that many of you luverly ladies do tend to denigrate your OH's. You must have realised that most real males have only three things on their minds, i.e Birds, Booze and the other thing!" If you can get through that particular hurdle you will find someone who can not only multi task but who is also very financially aware. So I beg of you stop knocking us.

Picks up Sun newspaper and heads for page 3. Fumbles for 4 pack and looks at DW longingly. :rotfl:
  • Got my veg box delievery through on Thursday and was very pleased with the amount I got for my money :). 11 carrots, 2 leeks, 7 pears, 9 apples, 5 satsumas, 5 bananas, 6 round tomatoes, 7 parsnips, 4 onions, 2 bunch spring onions (replacement for aubergine very happy with this as I like them in salads), 10 potatoes, cauliflower, alot of spinich and a round lettuce.
Here's a picture of it all. It's not a good one but I think it shows how much I got for the £15 I spent :D . Would have cost me alot more at the supermarket and that included delievery too so very impressed.
