Sorry about previous posting I must have hit wrong key - just as I was going to tell you how I'm going to save, save, save.
1 I'm not going to Tescos any more.
Benefits: save on petrol, save my temper, save on packaging, saveoodles of dosh by not buying 2 for 1s (I will also use up the 14 tins of tuna accumulated in my cupboard!)
2 I have found a brilliant wholesale butcher.
Benefits: Best quality meat, cheaper meat, it makes me plan meals, no packaging (well only the thousands of plastic bags I've bought from Tescos in the past!) I do bulk cooking, so ready meals not loaded with 'E's, I pack the right amount of meat for my needs - no waste.
3 I walk my grandson to school every day and shop at the Co-op.
Benefits: Exercise, no carbon emmissions from car, healhier me and grandson, save loads of money by shopping in a more expensive shop eg I can only buy what I can carry home, if I see something that is more expensive than Tescos I think 'I'm not paying that!' and think of an alternative.
I realise that as an oldie I have more time on my hands, but I'm sure that some of these tips could be used to save money, be greener and be healthier.
I can't wait to see how much I can save towards my new bathroom!

Give a man fire and he burns himself. Teach a man how to make fire and you miss a wonderful business opportunity! :cool:0 -

Right just got back from Asda, tried doing the shopping at tesco.com and came to 30 pounds earlier in the week including delivery charge. So went to asda got a few extras and some things I'd forgotton off my list but remembered throughout the week and it came to 29.29 so I'm pleased with that. I resisted the temptation to get the tuna that was on special offer and considering I have 4 tins in the cupboard I really didn't need it but it was somethingI'd have bought before if I saw it on special offer just because!
Hope it is going well for everyone else too, well I got some digestive biscuits so I'm off to make some tiffin with all the stuff I already had in the cupboard, yummy!0 -
I am new to the grocery challenge but I am sure it will help me stick to my budget of £90 per week for 2 adults 1 2 yr old and a cat and a squirrel. I have quite well so far but am going to Tesco this morning with a list so I will see how I go.
Wish me luckOctober Grocery Challenge £4000 -
Hello everyone,
I decided to join this month grocery challenge. My month started 26/09/2007 and I've been very careful with spending.
My grocery shopping includes: food and all other stuff you buy in supermarkets for 2 adults, food and litter for 2 cats and money taken from cashing machines for eating out/sandwiches.
Usually I order food online twice a month from Tesco and do some small shopping on my way home in Waitrose (I know it's not the best place to buy if you want to save but there's no other shop in the area).
I try to decrease cost of eating out/sandwiches and bring lunch from home. My average grocery cost is around £350. I want to spend only £300 this month.0 -
Mr T delivery came yesterday and charged me £72. A bit more than I hoped for but never mind the savings on Special offers paid for the delivery and we're well stocked up so hopeful of meeting target.
I like your signature Cushty however:
If you give a woman fire, she'll burn you. If you teach her how to make fire she may well set the world alight! :eek:0 -
Well, just got back from Sainsbury's and was chuffed to bits that the bill only came to £30-19! With the bits I bought on Monday in the Co-op I have still only spent £34-odd this week which is awesome! I reackon I have £43 per week left for the rest of the challenge and with only two of us it ought to be possible. I am making sure that we eat from the freezer this week, so next week might not be so successful, but I am not going to start expecting failure!
Keep up the good work everyone.0 -
Oh, I can't play this month... I was doing ever so well in September (as per my sig) and then I went and broke my leg. So DH is in charge of the shopping and we are living off ready meals for the next six weeks or so - the budget has gone to rat tish.
I can't wait to get back up and about so I can wrestle the reins back from him.
Good luck to everyone else - I'm ever so envious... how sad is that?!

ooooooohhh Curve, you could be missing a golden opportunity here!
Just think of all the fun you could have with the
"OMG, I can't believe you've spent THAT much!"
or
"well, if I was doing it, I'd have made 5 meals out of that and STILL had change from £1.00"
or
"we could have eaten a lot more healthily for less if I'd been in charge"
The possibilities are endless.....:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
He may have suspected it BUT by the end of the 6 weeks, he will KNOW you are a domestic goddess!!!0 -
I've just came back from tesco and have bought:
1 loaf £1.25 ()
36 pints milk £1.70 (makes up for the bread?!)
1 pineapple £1.49 (again )
1 mango 74p
double cream £5.4
So a total of £10.58
With the milk and double cream I am going to make ice cream (I will have an evening doing that tonight) I will have that with the mango and pineapple which will be grilled with a wee bit of brown sugar - a 'healthy' pudding!
I freeze my bread in 2 slices so that I can defrost as needed as I can never finish it before it goes off
So from my £100, I have spent £10.58, with £89.42 left till the 27th.
