I have always had old banger cars so never worried about theft. About to buy a £8000 van (2013) and will put a window cleaning tank in it. What is the best way to stop the van from being stolen?

GPS tracker? Alarm system? Shall I get all this fitted? I will have to park it occasionally on a road 100metres from my flat compound. Is there a device which triggers your phone if your van starts moving when you aren't in it?

Why not consider a good wheel clamp along with a good quality padlock (if the clamp doesn't have a built in lock).

If someone can break into to the van they can then take their time getting a steering wheel lock off but an external wheel clamp means that they have to try to remove it in full view of the public and other passing motorists.

One problem with the remote warning types of alarm is that they give you a couple of options which are to call the police (who may turn up if they are in the area), or go to the vehicle yourself and you might end up facing a hardened criminal who has nothing to lose by kicking the **** out of anyone who tries to stop him.

Some insurers might reduce the premiums for extra security. Find out what they like.

If you're buying a Transit and the lock barrels haven't already been changed change them.

The best way is to sell it, if a thief is determined enough they will steal it, my bro just had his ST stolen 2 weeks ago (not keyless) and had a disc lock on there.

Thieves know the vehicles they target, the best way to stop them is to do something "non-standard" to it.

All it takes is a simple switch spliced into the wiring room, hidden somewhere and they simply won't have time to find it.

You can go halfway with this. You head down to your car and watch from a distance to see what's happening, even single coppers don't approach crooks but follow them. Call the police then follow then car if it leaves before they get there.

Do those wheel locks take a long time to put on? The remote warning device exist? I just made that up, do you have a link?
