Hi, I paid £1.10 in my local Iceland yesterday in Ryde, Isle of WightOfficial MoneySavingExpert.com Note
Over the last couple of months MoneySavers have been discussing noticeable increases in food prices. Yet one staple that we almost all use can still be found cheaper in frozen foods supermarket Iceland. If you don't know where your nearest store is then you can use the Iceland store finder to find it.
Back to the original post...
I have noticed over the last couple of weeks that the big supermarkets have all increased the prices for their milk eg Morrisons 4pt was £1-15 and is now £1.35.
I also heard that there is an ivestigation going on to discover if a "cartel" is being operated for fixing these prices.
But just to let you know my local Iceland is still selling 4pts of milk for £1.

I work as a chef in a restaurant and we have been asked to cut down on our use of butter as the price has shot up in the past few months due to shortages, which is rubbish!

I think sometimes local shops offer better prices. Our local shop does 4pints of milk for 79p and it can be nearly double that in the supermarkets !0

Actually I have noticed that the price of a 4 pints milk bottle in Iceland went up last week (it used to be £1). Now I can only buy it for £1 in Somerfield.0

Sorry to rain on your parade but Iceland have just increased the price of 4 pints to £1.10 at my local branch. It is still, however, much cheaper than elsewhere. The other place I buy milk is my local Co-op convenience store and theirs is now £1.49. Was pleased to hear though that both these shops operate a longer pasteurisation time as standard. You certainly know about it in situations where the bacteria have fought back and won (to put things politely)0

The Londis store near me is doing 4 pint bottles currently 2 for £2 - got some today. Not sure if it's just a promotion or a longer term offer, as I can't see it on their website.
Might be worth checking them out, if there's one near you.0 -
This is really useful info! I'll have to look in our local Iceland.
Someone posted a link to the Milk Development Council. There was a set of graphs that were interesting. The shops are all saying that the prices have shot up because the wholesale & farm gate prices have risen, which the data doesn't support.
However, the data does show that the farm gate price has gone up by about 5 pence per litre since January. This is to a slightly more realistic price for the farmers - fair trade shouldn't just apply to foreign parts!
The local price for 6 pints (3.4 litres) has gone up by 40p (equivalent to 11p per litre) in the same period.
Interestingly, all the local supermarkets put their prices up exactly the same amount on the same day each time they rose. That is cartel-like activity and should be investigated.0 -
In my home town 4 pints of milk costs £1 in Iceland and Somerfield.
I'm not certain if this is only due to local competition, or if it's the same
throughout the Country.0
